This is done!
Hi Andrew,
I have the same problem as it seems the whole thing no longer runs on older Mac systems.
You don’t need to open a bug report here. it takes time for someone to help or it gets waved off. So people who use MacOs in version 12.7.6 (Mojave) please install at most 4.0.1 otherwise nothing works anymore.
I’ll try a downgrade now and see what the database says.
Thanks Denon.
Hi I having same problem with version 4.10 and yes version 4.01 is also working on my older MacBook from 2012 that´s runs OSX Sonoma version 14.7 (open core patcher)
What can be the problem ?
Hi Mac user,
When I decided to get back into music, I thought I’d use your old cheese grater to organise the collection and everything that goes with it. (Mac Pro 5.1 (2010) 2x 3.46GHz xenon, 64Gb, 2t ssd etc.) if you are interested I can warmly recommend the following blog.
well, you can read there how to equip the good old but powerful system with new MacOS versions. But it also lists pitfalls concerning the CPUs. For example, possibly missing CPU instruction sets. MMX etc.
I think that the developers use libraries that are no longer available in the old MacOS versions because of Sonoma compatibility or, more likely, they use core libraries that use CPU inductions that are not available in old Intel processors.
Therefore crash cause in report Wrong instruction set. OK.
So far so bad.
I don’t want to get upset here about the fact that Rosetta has to be used on M processors, that’s a different matter. But it hits the same mark.
What I find very bad again is the communication about the supposed improvements. They should have pointed this out in the release notes, unless they were unaware or unaware of it. <<<<<< So here’s another urgent warning: older Mac OS versions will NOT run with 4.1.x. !!!>>>>>>
When I sit back and read all this, what would you expect InMusic to do dealing with a 12 to 14 years old Mac, updated with a method outside of Apple official support?
I understand someone wants to use their investment to the max, but let’s be a bit reasonable.
i am using monterey right now and the version engine desktop 4.0.1 is working well but the version 4.1.0 crash
I know. If I understand Reese correctly, you need to buy a new Mac now.
Well, a bit newer perhaps. Don’t think Windows8 is still nicely supported as well (also 2012).
Don’t you think it’s time after 12-14 years to get something newer? Hardware failing, no more parts anymore or expensive to replace them.
My 2015 one works up until the last OS (i think) so should work with this. But then knowing Apple you’re likely to just run into the issue again in a couple of years, so something like an M1 machine at the very least would be my advice. If its only for managing music, the Air model is good enough value.
Completely unsupported now, it caused hell at my day job as thousands of people were still running it when the IT/Security people decided to just remove them from the corporate network… In fairness they had been warning the owners of the devices to update and upgrade for about 2yrs beforehand, so it was their own fault that they didnt.
Hi Reese, I was just describing my situation, let’s see how many more people get in touch. I don’t really understand the strategy either, if people buy new equipment what should they buy new Mac’s or new Denon devices?
Apple Silicone is the problem, they decided to turn the whole PC market on its head by introducing it. Its a fantastic piece of tech, but its completely screwed compatibility with software and OS.
I don’t work for InMusic, so cannot comment on their strategy, but my common sense tells me that organizing my music is the most important thing. It should be managed by device, that I can rely on. I wouldn’t use my oldest computer to do that.
Might just be me, of course.
The times I had to tell my customers to buy a new Adobe suite when moving from PowerPC to Intel, to 64bit only, to new M silicon…
I can only say that I trust my 15 year old Mac Pro more, than a brand new levono laptop or any Windows computer that constantly annoys me with ‘Are you sure’ or ‘an unknown error has occurred’.
But OK, so where is the Linux version of Engine DJ?
That’s fine, but accept some consequences then.
My personal Windows machines run all without issues. My customers run Windows Servers without issues. I’m not going to debate OS preferences; it’s endless arguing.
To get back on the real issue at hand, I’ll try and tag some people to check what’s changed regarding OS support with 4.1.
I am fully with Reese here. Nobody forces you to update to Engine DJ 4.1. It’s just another (free) update, like all the others before.
You want to use your 15y (!) old hardware? Fine, but don’t blame the developers then and play fair.
Eventually it’s time to move on, and it’s not like you need the newest MacOS Sequoia or a M4 Max to run Engine. A M1 Air is dirt cheap considering what it delivers (ultra-portable, no fans, good trackpad, screen and keyboard, 15hr+ battery life, very snappy), and several Intel-based Macs also still work.
Like Stu-C I had the awesome 2015 Retina for a long time (because the 2016-2019 butterfly/dongle-models sucked) but upgraded to a 16" M1 Max and couldn’t be happier. Massive night and day difference in every regard. By now, software support is also barely any issue (and Rosetta runs incredibly well)
well, as so often in this forum, people always want to be misunderstood here. and i also agree with Reese that you shouldn’t have the platform disusion - as an aluminium n-a-z-i i can understand that.
I’m not interested in pitting old or new hardware against each other. I own several Mac models of different ages. Including a Mac Book Pro with M 16 inch.
But that’s not the point here.
I’m concerned with the fact that if someone has to rely on his or her old darling for whatever reason. He or she is thrown into cold water when he or she or it is updated to 4.1. I would have expected that in a major update, but I don’t expect anything like that in a minor update.
But well, you never stop learning, so as always ‘no backup, no pity’
But now I have two problems, I want to solve my problems with my Prime4+ and that can only be done with an update to 4.1 (see bug reports), but it is urgently mentioned in release notes that both Prime systems, i.e. Denon hardware and the software on Mac, Windows, wherever, should have the same version.
What do we do now?
The game is open
I think you can run the device on 4.1, but the library software on 4.0.1 (if you are able to)
What is the maximum version of desktop that your system allows?
