Engine OS 4.1.0 available now

Hmm, probably because they changed/improved the database in 4.1

The changed requirements could be placed more prominently, so people get warned before they update Engine DJ (Desktop + OS). That’s a point where I agree.

4.0.1. is running on my Musik System that are the last version running may be

correct that is the way i am doing it

Do these old MacBooks support bootcamp? Maybe a Windows install can help.

I think the right question is does engine work via boot camp

Quick question, is slip mode on the prime go the same as smart scratch on the mixstream pro go?

I had a read up on it Andy, it looks like you can jump to cue points etc and the track will continue playing in the background then return back to where it would be playing after you exit. So similar to roll mode only a bit more advanced.

Yes it is, just more powerful.

  • Slip Mode covers Scratching, Reverse, Looping and afaik Hot Cues (hold/press).
  • Smart Scratch is just, well, Slip Scratching.

(Weirdly enough, I was a hardcore Slip Mode user during my CDJ-900 era, but eventually lost interest in it… should give it more attention again, I guess. Here, just for the retro vibes:)

Moin @Skaratak,

ey, boah, Alder, could you pls. be so kind as to repeat this on the DENON’s Prime4?

Suddenly everybody wants to know how about the “SLIP” function. A few days ago, I posted this

I’m quiet nervous and brgds from HAM BeatMaster

Entschuldigung werter Herr, but I am a bit confused about that other topic (which got closed anyway).

Slip Mode works identically on all Prime units, and strictly speaking on pretty much any DJ unit out there, software included. Back then, Denon called it “Dump” and Traktor “Flux” and Pioneer (when they were a bit more innovative than today), implemented it very nicely on the CDJ-900, and then added this feature to the 2000NXS. Since then, the functionality hasn’t really changed:

  • Engage it (dedicated button on most units, Shift+Vinyl on the Prime Go)
  • The button should flash now and Slip Mode is activated / ready
  • Perform Slip scratching, Slip Reverse (Censor), Slip Loop (Roll) or Hot Cues (Gate)
  • You can check on the screen how the waveform “splits” into two parts
  • Once you’re happy and done, disable Slip Mode again

Tutorial video, starts at 1:30min:

Notice, that you can even use the Play Button combined with Stop Time Adjust for that.

Simple as that. Gute Nacht!

Regarding this tutorial series, I noticed they became a little old by now. If enough people are interested, I could do a full tutorial / all-features shown video with my Prime 4. Going from all basics (preparation, I/O, track loading…) to the advanced stuff (Lighting, Serato, Ableton Link, Sampler…). However, I lack the more current P4+ as well as the LC6000, to make this truly perfect.

I would like to clarify from an inMusic perspective.

  • Rosetta is NOT required to run Engine DJ, the application has a universal binary, so it should work on Intel or M series processors
  • We did testing of OS Monterey for the 4.1.0 release and no testers saw these issues. It may be a hardware limitation of your 2012 Mac. Even though we use the same operating system, we have more modern Macbooks running this OS.
  • Mac OS usually has 3-4 supported OS’s at a time for Engine. As Mac releases a new one, we support that, then eventually drop support for the oldest OS in the list. This doesn’t mean that it won’t work on the OS. just that we don’t test all old OS’s.
  • I have just checked on my personal 2015 Mac running 12.7.1 and had no issues running Engine desktop. I’m updating to 12.7.6 now to see if there’s any difference.

Moin @Skaratak,

thanks for your advice and the list of functionality.

I will try it later, today it’s really too late for this experiments.

And an update for the tutorial series will be gorgeous, I would appreciate it.

Good night as well

I would like to know if I can safely rollback my device from 4.1 to 4.0.1 for this week-end as I am a little bit affraid about the pitch issue with sc live 4 & 4.1.0.

According to the changelog I should be able to stay with 4.1.0 engine DJ and export/sync to an USB key to be used on a 4.0.1 engine os , am I right ?

you should be able to switch from 4.1 to 4.01 without any problem.

Note however that such small and fast micro fluctuations should not be audible if you perform a manual beatmatch with keylock and should not normally cause drift problems over short and medium durations. There is a good chance that this is just a display bug. If you use synchronization you should perform tests to see if the synchronized deck follows the variations of the fluctuating deck or not to see if this could cause drifts

I dont use sync but I have tried and the second right deck follow the fluctuation of the first one

so if the synced deck follows the fluctuations you will normally not get any drift, even in the case of using the sync.

These micro fluctuations should not affect your mix more than if you were using a vinyl turntable (even the technics mk2 have micro fluctuations, the motor is never 100% totally constant)

Just tried Bluetooth out to my Q800B soundbar, 1/4 of a beat delay :joy:, don’t think I’ll be making use of that feature again.

the BT feature is clearly not meant to be used for beatmatch here, BT causes too much lag for that.

It’s more of a feature to stream a playlist to a BT device or something like that

Yeah I know, just thought I’d check it out because a few people were having issues connecting to certain devices. But yeah it’s not something I’ll ever use, I’d rather just stream a playlist from my phone to my speaker instead.

The right tool for the job & all that.
