Why are you flying off in a fit of anger yet again, 3.1 was just released to the public, its clear that a new version is in ALPHA state and has been shared early by Youtube channels due to the stems feature being leaked. The next versions of Engine OS will give you the day mode and whatever else has been teased (bluetooth) across the range.
Go and watch Phil Morse video regarding this update and learn something, rather than watching a single DJ mix then heading here to vent.
Your ability to ‘read the room’ is arguably the worst ive ever come across in my 42 years on the planet, how is it possible someone can claim to be so on the ball, yet spend their life being constantly wide of the mark with everything they say? its almost a unique skill.
Denon is doing a great job updating older units with new firmwares and lot of new features. I loved My SC5000’S units from the first time I turned them on, but 4 years later they are much more powerful and complete - for free. But they need to sell new gear, and will eventually stop adding functionalities to older gear, even if hardware-wise they could support it.
I am still amazed how much love the SC5000 from 2017 (+ certainly developed several years earlier) gets. There is really no point to complain in that regard. Credit where credit is due.
Sampler, Engine Remote, Touch EFX, improved main EFX, Smart Playlists, Bluetooth, STEMS, Day Mode - that’s the biggest chunk of main features we ever get/got over just several months.
However: I wouldn’t mind more incremental 0.0.x updates again with more/pure focus on bug fixes, stability and performance (booting, loading, computer mode, etc.) in the next 1-2 years, as in terms of new features, there is already more than I could ever imagine back in 2017-2020. I hope STEMS won’t eat up too many dev resources and the SoundSwitch team gets more inMusic support, as the update pace here is much slower - there are still some critical workflow and stability issues.
I’m not in any way flying off the handle day mode is a simple thing that can be put in any update at anytime. You would think with all the people on here complaining about not being able to see anything that they would not hold this out when it’s already in the 3.1 update for the p4+. I’m just saying why hold back such a simple thing that everyone needs? Well maybe not you cuz you seem to be perfect and need nothing at all. But for everyone else on here that has been screaming for months maybe years to have it come out on the new unit when it’s such a simple thing to do is kind of a joke to wait till the next update since the displays are exactly the same in both the new p4+ and the prime 4.
And yes it is a unique skill. When you have been djing as long as I have over 49 years and a very simple thing that should have been part of an update years ago is now coming and instead of having it available for everyone which is what should have been done.
They wait even longer when it’s a feature everyone needs since no matter the angle you put the screen at doesn’t help at all when outdoors. It should have been implemented after the first few complaints about how you can’t see anything on the screen outside.
But leave it to Denon to only make it available for the new product a day time screen has been around for decades now its not a new feature and certainly needed across the board on all Denon devices, them waiting on this is showing how they do not prioritize what is needed the most vs what they actually do. This is the reason a room full of engineers should never dictate what should and shouldn’t be done in a new device or any update.
It should be done by actually looking at the information received by the people that actually spent the money to buy the product and truly listen to what is needed most before putting out an update with things that are great and needed but not ahead of things that are more important. That is the way to do this not the way they hide things and not really tell you things about there updates etc. I understand about the secrecy for certain things but most of what they are bringing to a stand alone has been out for decades it’s nothing new at all. Yes it’s new for a stand alone but not new in the industry at all and they need to get with that instead of pushing back something greatly needed and putting out something new that may are may not have a massive impact with everyone. Don’t get me wrong the 3.1 update is definitely a good one it would have not been a stretch to have day mode included for all devices in 3.1. Let’s just see if they even bother to put it the next one which is probably 6 to 8 months away knowing how the firmware updates have been trending with Denon. But you know your the expert apparently on all of this stuff so you would know better right?
Read this very carefully. I have a day job, that day job has a title of ‘System Support and Transformation’… I work for a huge Telecoms company with 120000 employees (people in the UK will make an educated guess as to who it is). The ‘Transformation’ part of this job involves business transformation, in my case systems. Part of my role is to work with Development teams to add new and improved features to a Warehouse management system that is active across 100+ warehouses, processing over 100000 orders per day for both internal and external customers, linking in to around 25 other systems, both up and downstream. I do extensive E2E, User acceptance and Pre Prod testing, where I provide business sign off for any changes being made, I then work release weekends providing Post Deployment Testing to sign off the live system back to operations as working correctly. The work I do can have direct impact on 35000 employees who use the system on a daily basis.
So when you think you’re attempting to sound clever because you’ve played somebody else’s records for a few years, you really don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. You have no idea of how development, testing, bug fixes, re-testing, more bug fixes, more retesting, final beta’s, live release, hot fixes etc work… you’re just someone on a forum with a habit of ranting over things you’re not at all versed on.
As far as everything being perfect for me, if you weren’t so lazy you would look at my profile and see that ive reported an issue with the software in the last 24hrs alone, ive added feature requests, voted on others feature requests… so get down off your high horse and start listening to what people have to say.
You should also never carry all your egg in one basket, but i digress.
Tech companies never or ‘should never’ release all the ‘goodies’ or ‘features’ at once.
These would feature heavily as part of their continued marketing glide path, it also helps to reaffirm their installed user base whilst ensuring that there is sufficient new users purchasing hardware.
The Prime 4+ is ‘the’ latest device from Denon, so quite rightly is should be feature rich, and if that is at the expense of the estate until they catch up. This happens on loads of products, from Cars to computers to our Denon gear.
As much as i and many others on the forum have voiced our need for a high contrast/day night mode [way before the Prime 4+ was announced] we are not berating the team who are working behind the scene to continually bring us all these great updates.
So lets all chill, make a mix and enjoy what’s coming down the pipeline to us
Pretty sure the very few 4+ units out there is on a separate firmware - is it mentioned anywhere that day-mode will be exclusive to the 4+? If not, let’s wait and see what will show up in the next update or two?
Just for sake of comparison… Serato had day mode in Serato Itch but they didn’t implement it on Serato DJ until v2.2. 7 years after the release of Serato DJ v1.0.
You do you! I’m not going to argue with over how things work and don’t work. I have been a DJ working with lots of different systems and company’s as well as all kinds of equipment. I have been doing this longer than you have been alive since you said your 42 years on this earth. Many companies do this kind of thing and many companies have also learned a while ago that it’s not always best to listen to the engineers that have never touched a product and just tell you well this is better here then here. Just because they say that doesn’t make it correct. Same with a feature request just because it’s requested doesn’t make it something that should come out before something like a day time screen which everyone benefits from. Yeah the new fx are nice but the day time screen would have been better received by all then the fx. Yes I get it the fx make a bigger splash but for the people they play outside on a regular basis we could careless about fx when you can’t even see the screen. Logically thinking a daytime screen should have been pushed out now and maybe the fx later for the prime 4 while the P4+ plus gets the fx’s etc you have your way Apple has there way etc but I can tell you first hand the way engine DJ handles the Apple integration doesn’t work well at all . But if I called Apple now and it was an Apple issue they would do everything by phone with me to address it immediately. Not this goofy way of never getting a tech support person on the phone because once a product is out they could careless to help you with it at Denon. 2.200 dollars on a controller that basically has zero tech support. Unheard of in the industry and ridiculous. Look at any of there videos they are still for engine prime which is long gone no updates to any videos from Denon to match current firmware or software versions, a reliable company would be updating these and being more informative in the videos would also be helpful but they don’t do that either. There videos are super short and don’t show anything all the way through to the end they show you how to do something but never show the end result why is that? Why are there videos not current? Why do they no longer offer tech support by phone? All unanswered by Denon and even Serato which being overseas for me is by email and even they answer me within 24 hours Denon ha I’m still waiting on email responses from them from months ago can’t have a successful company if you never answer your customers and fix issues with the products you create and sell right? I get there are testing, betas, etc but there is a process to do it and to be 6 to 8 months out on a firmware update while still having stability issues and not having a day time screen for all in this update and making us way even longer is not a good business plan at all when they know a lot is us are and have been struggling to add such a simple thing that has been around for decades in DJ software.
