Sync indicator functionality

Hello, everyone! I was pleasantly surprised to discover a new feature in the latest firmware - the sync indicator mode. This new mode is great, as it allows us to choose between two visualization options for this function. However, I noticed that the developers didn’t include an option to disable the sync indicator. I understand that this feature may be helpful for some users in beatmatching tracks, but as someone who works with music by ear, having the sync indicator on the screen is annoying to me (and I couldn’t find a way to turn it off). Is there a way to disable it? If the sync indicator is indeed a non-disableable feature, please inform the developers about this. Perhaps they could consider adding the option to disable the sync indicator in future firmware updates. In any case, I wanted to share my thoughts on this matter. Wishing everyone a great day!

If you work things by ear, why are you staring at the screen? Just asking for a friend :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Moin @djliquidice,

imo watching is prevailing hearing. I watch the indicator as well like the rabbit in front of the snake.

Problem: If the beatgrids (plural) are not 100 % proper, the indicator displays “green light” in spite of an inproper beatgrid but your ears are detecting a deviation. If you improve the match by hand, ears are detecting “everything OK”, but the indicator shows you a deviation.

And pls. look above …

So it makes sence to have the opportunity to enable / disable the sync indicator.

Enjoy the day and brgds

I prefer to work with music by ear, correctly, without synchronization and automatic phasing (besides, I almost never use the sync function). However, this does not mean that I do not use the screen and many convenient functions. Every time I look at the screen, I see the non-disableable visualization “Sync indicator” in the center, which I do not need and only annoys me. BeatMaster also noticed another important reason why this function can mislead the user, and his remark is very correct. In addition, according to recent research, it has been proven that people tend to trust automation more than themselves. That is why, to avoid risks in critical infrastructure objects, quality operational control is carried out by humans, not AI.

I hope I was able to respond to your sarcastic comment in a way that is clear to you

You did a fantastic job! Thank you for taking the high road dude. I was feeling a bit playful when I replied, and in retrospect realize how triggering it could be received. Again, thank you.

Genuine question, if you are mixing by ear, what purpose do you have for staring at the screen mid mix?

Ive been doing 4hr gigs with my prime 2 since the phase meter was added and ive never taken any notice of it yet, its just a nothing feature thats not even in my workflow.

I also find it incredibly hilarious how this forum has yet again surpassed itself. Prior to its addition we had people vehemently complaining about the lack of a phase meter, and how Denon are failing its customers by not including this essential, cant live without addition. They now add it and surprise surprise what do we now see, people bemoaning the fact its there.

I don’t use key sync or even normal sync, i just ignore them and focus on the buttons and features i do use.

Thank you, you are absolutely right. I suppose for those who actively use the Sync indicator, incorrectly analyzed tracks (with erroneous BPM values and grids not aligned with the track) pose a significant problem. However, I’ve been using the SC5000 for almost five years now, and I must say that the analyzer in Engine has become much better! I happily use Engine OS; the only thing that seems strange to me is the inability to disable the Sync indicator, which is what I wrote about

I am not offended by you at all, and I appreciate that you took the time to respond to me :+1:

I often glance at the screen because I actively work with loops, frequently use the third channel to enrich the sound, and experiment with pitch adjustments. For the SC5000 and SC6000, some of these functions are on the screen, while others are closely linked to it. Similarly, you could ask Carl Cox why he looks at the player screens, given that this DJ doesn’t use the Sync function in classical DJing. Essentially, it’s just my preference - I enjoy working with sound without automation (though, of course, in certain cases, I do use sync, such as when DJing with multiple channels in 4-5 channels). I don’t dispute that auto phasing, sync, and the Sync indicator are all very cool features that people need. If you’re talking about the Prime 2, Prime 4, their screen architecture is different from the SC, where tracks are visually aligned on one screen, and you can visually detect desynchronization by the waveforms themselves. I’m specifically referring to the modular SC equipment. We’re all different, with varying preferences in DJing, so what doesn’t bother you might bother me, and vice versa - that’s normal. Therefore, allowing people to enable and disable different functions and their display is the way to ensure everyone is satisfied, especially since my suggestion is very simple to implement, just one line of code and one addition to the existing settings function. In any case, I’ll repeat it, but Engine OS is a cool thing

Later, I will move this topic to the section you recommended. However, if there is an administrator who believes that it needs to be done urgently and has the authority to do so, I don’t mind at all

It’s really not that prominent to be a concern though, a small thin line on the UI.

Requests need to follow the given template in that area. If there’s no duplicate, the request will get approved by a mod.

So please go ahead and create a new one with as much info as possible.

I respect your point of view, but I have a different perspective, and I’ve tried to justify my position on this issue and propose a solution. I can only hope that the developers will consider my arguments sufficient to eventually add the option to turn off the ‘Sync indicator’ visualization. Regarding your statement about the small “Sync indicator” icon, that may be true for your Prime 2, but on the SC5000 and SC6000, it’s quite a prominent indicator (as I mentioned earlier, the screen architecture is different on the SC compared to the Prime 2). Even in the mode displaying two tracks simultaneously, it’s still quite noticeable in my opinion. Again, I agree with you that this issue is not critical, but we all want to enjoy the perfect OS for our player, so like many others, I decided to raise the issue that interests me.

Hello. Thank you for the advice! I will act as you recommended (since I cannot move this topic there: An error occurred: “You cannot move this topic to a category where you do not have permission to create new topics”) :dotted_line_face:

As you suggested, I created a topic in the “New/Open Requests” section. Here is the link: Proposal: Ability to Disable Sync Indicator. However, you closed it and inexplicably moved it to the “Media Players” section, which raises doubts about the appropriateness of your actions. Nevertheless, I have already done everything necessary to express my position. If the developers are interested in user feedback, I assume they read various sections, not just the “New/Open Requests” section. Therefore, despite your actions, I still hope the developers will pay attention to the topic.

Would you like me to assist with raising it as a feature request for you? It looks like it was closed because it needs to follow the template outlined by Reese… i can do this if you want?

No. There’s no doubt on my actions.

YOU didn’t use the template that NEEDS to be filled in. Otherwise the request will be rejected. I’ve allowed your wrongly made “request” as a new discussion topic, but you had already created one (which I forgot was there). So I closed the, in essence, duplicate topic.

If you want to make a request, follow the forum guidelines on how to do so. Have look at other requests on how it should be done.

Please show me where in the user agreement it states that I must create my request in the forum strictly according to your ridiculous questions?

Thank you very much for your attention. If you want to and have time for it, you can do it. It’s just that formalism and the narrow-mindedness of these “template questions” irritate me. You can consider it my personal quirk

I think you need to tone down a bit.

The “rules” are not made by me, but come from InMusic staff. Devs only read and pick up official requests following a given template. Other members cannot give their vote on your request otherwise, as well. You might get @STU-C to work for you. I hope he will get paid for it.

But if you don’t like these simple instructions, fine by me. :+1:
