Progress on the booth… need to hang some pictures and artwork, build a corner shelf for the left hand speaker and also find some granite or marble slabs to isolate the turntables (feedback coming through the speakers when fader is open on the phono connection), also booked my decks in for a 22yr overdue service. Need a few paint touch ups here and there too.
I really love the fact that you didn’t set it up where you face the wall. This is something my wife has pushed me to do for years and I’m so glad she did.
I think ive essentially created a huge woodwind instrument and its acoustic feedback from the needle, it does it with no music on, with the needle on a still record, goes off once its running, which might also be the motor creating the vibrations through the wood when its still but with power running through.
Cheers man
That ones ok Ian, its into an alleyway that faces our neighbours house, the only way you can get in is through a locked gate the other side of the house and its a dead end to a garage door. It’s the other window I need to worry about as that is next to the front door.
100% the same, after 25yrs of DJing to a wall at home, it was time for a change Next job is to do custom shelving all the way along the back with record sorters and a shelf for my 45 boxes… thats a summer project when its not -2c in the garage
Im going to fit a corner shelf on the left for that one, then leave the other in the bookcase for the time being.
The masterplan will be to have that on another corner shelf once I build the built in cabinets along the back wall, those will all be just under the window height with record sorters either side of the window.
My default setup is facing the wall which I’m not keen on; I’m toying with the idea of creating a rotating top which can spin out for when I want to be more in the centre of the room, but I suspect it would be beyond my meagre DIY skills . . .
yeah and if you need any advice on joints or materials etc, dont hesitate to ask. The great thing about DIY today, you can buy stuff like plunge saws from Aldi for about £90 with a track included, so its never been a better time to do stuff like this. There’s loads of videos covering techniques, safety and cabinetry skills.
And thank you, im over the moon with how its turned out, beyond my expectations.
Right, I promise this will be the last post of the DJ room…. I figured that most of us on here will be nightcrawlers so thought it best to do some shots of it when it’s most likely to be used.
It’s also where I work from home on my WFH days too, so doubles up as a cool office.
My sub conked out this week so having to buy a new one (seems Presonus are typically ‘modern’ in their approach to repairs), I found a Mackie one on eBay for £99 (old model being sold off) so looking forward to that arriving. It’s not too big of a hit financially either.
The tall cabinet is getting the same colour as the booth, funnily enough that was one of my first woodwork projects, creating the triple shaker door for it.
There’s also some more artwork to go on the walls, still deciding what though.
