[SC Live 4 - 4.3.2] No audio out except internal speakers

So I guess I’m the most recent victim of a failing SC Live 4?

I now have 3 months old, unusable SC Live 4. At 4 PM today, I did a quick liveset and everything as working well. After a power cycle (I went to dinner), came back, no sound coming from my headphones. And further analysis told me I don’t even have output from my master out anymore. Just the internal speakers are outputting sound.

After a bit of googling I figured out I’m not the only one:

I tried rolling back to 4.3.0, and even 4.2.0, without luck.

I’m pretty sure my warranty will cover this at Thomann.de, but this really s*cks. I have a holiday coming up with a lot of free time, and was aiming for livestreams, recordings, playing around with my light show, etc. The repair process will probably take a few weeks in total at minimum. :frowning:

So this is a heads-up for every SC Live 4 owner, if you are on 4.3.2, and you do not use Apple Music, I’d advice to stay on 4.3.0.

It seems the 4.3.2 update damages some internal hardware. Well that’s my assumption at this point.

And before you ask, yes, all my knobs are in the correct positions.

I do hope Denon acknowledges something went wrong.

Same happened to me, end of last year I sent it back and got the prime

Not had any problems myself. Im on latest firmware too.

Wonder if its caused by having some levels too high during bootup / upgrades etc, causing some high voltage pops.

I have all my faders off, and headphones at 0 every time i switch off.

I have the same problem. Also did a factory reset. This seems to have some faulty electronics. What a disappointment as it has very little use. This isn’t giving me any confidence while playing a gig, disappointing. Update I had to take the controller back to the store for an exchange. So far all good!

Just had this problem after power cycling my SC Live 4, Master output is working but I have no CUE/Headphones output, just raised a ticket for it.

Same problem here as of this past Saturday night. Was playing and all of a sudden, after 3 hours of no issues, it stopped playing out of the speakers connected through XLR cables. No sound through the headphones either. Had a show the next morning and with different cables and speakers (even tried rca cables) there was still no sound output even though it was detecting it through the sound level lights. Ive got another show for a 4 hour set in 9 days and my board wont work. Beyond frustrating. Im currently in the process of using the manufacturer warranty but am getting pretty over it. Even tried a factory reset to no avail. Ive had the board stutter while trying to load songs before on mainstage and its really making me want to switch to pioneer so that even though ill have less features and key shift ill be able to play more reliably.

Does anyone have a solution here? Is there a setting in the menu that needs to be toggled? Ive tried it with every knob at 12 o clock as well.

Denon, if a mods on here this is something that will make me switch to Pioneer if this isnt adressed as much as ive talked about how much i love this device, i won’t be recommending it to people in the future if this cant get figured out.

Thanks for any help.

Hey @Blake_Coulter (And all others in this thread) - Have you tried re-updating the software version? Try going back to previous release and then updating again.

Try to update using a computer connection via USB cable

Thanks for replying.

Personally I’ve tried the following so far:

  • Factory reset (while on 4.3.2)
  • Rollback to 4.3.0
  • Rollback to 4.2.0

All these steps didn’t make a difference. I did not try upgrading back to 4.3.2 but at this point it wouldn’t make much sense why that would fix it?

My gear is being serviced at Thomann.de so can’t troubleshoot further.

Unfortunately, I am now in the same boat.

The gear was working fine when I played on Friday night with it. I shut the gear down per normal. I turned it on today to play a set and was not getting any headphone/cue output. At the time I was using serato and everything looked like it was setup correctly in the software, so I switched into stand-alone mode and have the same results. The only output I get is on the built-in speakers. No output from main output (both rca & xlr), booth (1/4"), or headphones (1/4" and 3.5mm).

All the cables and the headphones are good and tested. It’s something inside the device not working. I did a factory reset from the settings, no change. In an attempt to resolve, I downgraded to 4.3.1 with the official updater from the website, then back to 4.3.2, no change.

Now I have a support ticket in, hopefully they provide a fix, otherwise I’m not sure what to do and will be thoroughly furstrated.

Damn that ■■■■■ mate. Hope for speedy support.

This means that @aaaguy ‘s suggestion isn’t a fix either..

Hi everyone,

Really sorry to see all of these issues, we are currently investigating.

In the meantime, anyone who still has their unit and is exhibiting this issue, could you please try the following…

  • Unplug everything from the unit. The only thing that should be plugged in is the power cable.

  • Ensure all channel faders are down

  • Switch all crossfader assignments to THRU

  • Ensure headphone volume is at 0

  • Ensure speaker is turned ON

  • Downgrade unit to 2.4.0 via USB drive (the LEDs may be off. Reboot the unit until all LEDs show as normal)

  • Factory reset on 2.4.0

  • Power off the unit

  • Power it back on (again, the LEDs may be off. Reboot the unit until all LEDs show as normal)

  • Upgrade to 4.3.2 via USB drive

Please do all updates using a clean USB drive with nothing else on but the update file.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Many thanks,

T.

Hi @PulzWave, @Neil_Williams, @ogma, @Blake_Coulter & @themrmalone

Has anyone had a chance to try the above?

Hey @TJohnson

Just did the steps mentioned, downgraded to 2.4.0 and then back to 4.3.2 via a clean USB drive and there’s still no audio output through the Headphone jacks :frowning:

Speaker and Master output work as intended.

Got the same issue today. Luckily the unit was bought in June so it’s still under warranty.

It happened to me in june. No headphones / No Main out (just built in speakers). I send it back to Thomann. DE and it came back to me last week. This afternoon i had the same problem during a show, at first my left deck died and after a power cycle the rest of it just stopped to work. Just built in speaker working again. Of course i tried the techniques mentionned in this thread including factory reset and updates via clean USB drive. I just did everything just as indicated. Nothing.

I was disapointed the first time, now i’m just furious ! Not only because this gear ruined two shows, but above all i expected the repair that took so long will be definitive.

I’m not trusting this gear again and i’ll have to pray the gods that Thomman accept an exceptionnal refund. I’m just disgusted.

This exact thing happened to me last night….not mains sound out…no pre cue!?!?!

Have we had and answer and to why?

Apart from @TJohnson ‘s reply and @aaaguy’s suggestions, no statements from Denon unfortunately.

I caved in and sold my SC Live 4 (after it got repaired), and got myself a Prime4+. No issues so far.

FWIW, @aaaguy also responded and some more staff behind the scenes.

Apart from above, people still seem to forget that the forum is community driven. Staff is very active here, but if you really need support, guess what, contact Support | Engine DJ first.

Glad you got ehm “a working workaround”.

Fair enough, I edited my reply.

And yes I agree that people that need a replacement will need to contact support. And I’m confident they will provide their customers with a proper solution.

However I was kinda hoping for some kind of official statement, a recall, or something like that. Bringing customers with similar problems together on a platform like this is great for that I think.

To be fair, I think this community filters and even solves lots of issue that normally would require support contact. :+1:

I don’t know if the SC Live4 issue was firmware or hardware related and reproducible. Maybe staff could have circled back on that indeed.
