Pioneer CDJ Nexus 3/XDJ 2000

Interestingly the review should have been almost the same at some extend - but there is no easy answer to this. But my feeling is the comments below the review would be different…

Btw. are Denon or PioneerDJ disclose sales results by the different units?

Personally, my decision making goes beyond manufacturer. I look at how they’re innovating and is the features of some use to me. I don’t buy because 'everyone is using it" or everyone is calling it the “industry standard”.

My first purchase from Denon in 15+ years was the MCX8000, which at the time cost $400 (U.S.) more than the Pioneer DDJ-SX2. I bought it because it offered features and had far more potential than what was offered by the competition.

I own the Mixars Quattro mixer for Serato. It is the only 4-channel Serato mixer with dedicated touchpads and two USBs for two DJs. Mixars is a newer company but the product is solid and they pushed out a product no other manufacture has yet to do.

I purchased Phase DJ. A new company with the product that now is rock solid (wasn’t at first, but has greatly improved).

I purchased the Prime 4 from Denon. A true standalone DJ system, with the ability to play multiple media sources, wifi capable, and stream music from online sources. No other manufacturer is offering anything at this level of innovation.

Pioneer either lacks the desire or ability to innovate further. I think for years they have been holding back on pushing out technology because they knew that the day would come where their limitations would show. And here it is…

Don’t get me wrong, the 3000 is an incredible piece of equipment, but Denon DJ has shown us what else is possible.

Easy, now. Gemini has some issues, but those others are amazing capability and reliability for the price compared to, say, Numark. You can pick up ADJ and Citronic media players & controllers made by Hanpin Electron for like a hundred bucks a deck used that have better faders and jogs than Prime or Pioneer. Ditto with the Hanpin Super OEM TTs under tons of brandings. The branding isn’t really the problem. I’d rather have a DJ Tech ABS TT or even an overpriced Pioneer-branded Hanpin than a VL-12. And I’ve never had a Hercules controller that wasn’t crazy-durable. My oldest controller was Hercules and I just gave it away to a friend to function as a computer-connected digital mixer (what an idea!), DVS interface, and HID/MIDI controller in one. Thing still works like new and it has rubber buttons with bubble switches on the circuit board! I’d buy any other company that could make buttons like that a fruit basket!

Food for thought, they were sold not long ago, one of the common things leading up to a sale is to cut spending as much as possible to make the company look more profitable. I’m making a wild guess that KKR, the company that used to own them, figured they could rest on the brand’s market share, cut R&D and product development for a year or so to get earnings up, and then quickly sell the company before those cuts became a liability. Time will tell, if they come out with a new suite of hardware a year from now I may have guessed correctly…

Those look like grounding and firmware issues. With a slight smile, I sincerely hope that those early buyers are being helped.

yes, but the video where he hits the plastic with his finger, and the player goes into play seems to me more of a hardware problem! what do you think about it ?

Not sure I’d laugh too hard at that, especially given the rough start that the prime series had. New devices will often have hidden bugs. The difference between good and very good manufacturers will be the time it takes to fix the issue.

When your marketing campaign is all focussed on reliability and quality control, it sure triggers some reactions, though

The topplate is metal on the CDJ-3000 now, or not? So grounding.

Is that a factor when the pressure sensitive (not touch sensitive) jog top seems to be activated without touching it?

yes, but if the problem and that must bring them back! because it is happening to more than one user!

Mmm I don’t know. Perhaps it’s linked to the cue or play ground?

Why are we even contemplating about their issues? HAHAHA!!

As I recall, first thing Pioneer DJ did after getting a big chunk sold to KKR was put out the NXS2 CDJ and DJM, the XDJ-1000mk2, and the Tour line.

The difference there is Pioneer responded practically straight away, to update its customers, Denon was a little sluggish when they responded. Given Denon had issues with its flag ship device I am not suprised that Pioneer users are also having issues, the question remains if these problems persist. As Pioneer is maker of the ‘club standard’ equipment they cannot afford to have serious issues after release.

I think that’s right, and then precious little since.

however, you must also admit that denon never releases a product immediately after presentation! instead pioneer delivered the products the day after the presentation! I think they were in too much of a hurry!

Tons of controllers and all-in-ones, lower-end mixers, and then the V10 that was already an indication they were starting to somewhat copy other brands… albeit with the V10’s weird DJM-2000 dry-wet filter implementation. I guess that was a sign of things to come.

exactly the point. if that’s one of the major sales pitches you gotta get it right. especially if you don’t have much else to offer.

Bonus video 2: tapping on the faceplate engages the platter sensor. https://photos.app.goo.gl/sHGoEuGo3GKi6QLT6

This is a bit ironic, but didn’t users repeatedly requested the jog dead pitch zone getting resolved and the helpful-as-always-moderator replied deal with it?

Now, platter sensor and jog bend are two different pairs of shoes, but the thereshold issue seems to be comparable.

It’s funny the CDJ3000 is much more discussed here and Serato forum than in Pioneer forum :joy: Pioneer forum moderator (Pulse) is such an a** h*** nobody feels free to to post on this forum !

Anyway there’s many things interesting on Denon DJ forum and it’s a good thing since our feedbacks are taken into account in software updates and products development :+1:t5:
