I’m playing around with my set up right now.
When you get your sampler and you are using the S/R with midi out clock from you mixer make sure you keep the fx assignment on an engine connected channel.

I haven’t really used any music production tools outside of Ableton. I’m not familiar with what S/R is. I also assume you’re implying the way I hook the x1850 to the MPC One is via the ‘midi out’ port in the back of the x1850 with a midi cable?
I was talking about the mixer’s send and return. I forgot you have a laptop in the equation.
O yes. I want to buy this now.
Hey Denon make this happen.
This is just what I need for my SC6000 set up.
Although I completely agree with you, there will never be a Denon sampler while Akai still makes them - why would 2 companies in the same stable compete?.
I’d suggest looking at the Akai line if you want a sampler - something like a Force, perhaps.
Well, my idea was much more of a looper/remix deck not a sampler/sequencer. You could still use it as sampler and sequencer, but general purpose is to catch loops from other prime decks/devices, and playback them in time/sync. This could give us more of a remix live options and pre-arrange sets including loops from various tracks. Simplified sample catching from decks via LINK and perfect sync with Prime series devices. You could run this device on a mixer channel or as a Send/Return and use its FX as external effect unit with XY touch pad like kaoss pad to link 2 effects together and control with one finger.
I’m sure your idea is spot on - I’d love to see it, but being pragmatic and realistic - it wont happen while Akai are also in the InMusic stable. Why would they compete?
The best advise we can give is to look at the Akai range if you want a sampler.
an Akai unit with Stagelinq or Engine Connect baked in.
THIS is why we need Ableton Link for the Prime line, and why I’ve been so adamant about pushing for it. We don’t need a Prime specific sampler (ie; Prime version of DJS1000)!!! We already have super dope samplers/sequencers in the form of the Akai MPC line…we just need them to communicate with our Prime players.
I ma sure there is a thread for the Ableton Link suggestion - would definitely be worth adding a like to that thread - can only help highlight the need for this.
There is no such product in akai - so no competition between brands. Samplers and grove boxes from akai are not made for looping. I was looking for a looper to go with my Denon prime’s but there is nothing in akai that can be a legit looper. So if Denon makes one Dj oriented looper based on the documentation I sent them - this would be realy a dj live remixing tool and a game changer.
You can loop on any Prime player - you don’t need a sampler to do loops. If looping is the big sell, then I am afraid I cant ever see them being serious about that - most likely why you haven’t heard back from them.
Shame - I love your design, and would definitely buy it - kudos to you for spending time preparing it all for Denon. I just strongly feel that Denon treading on Akai’s toes, or even on their own toes, is not going to happen.
Live Looping has been available on the Akai Force since two updates ago.
Fingers crossed for Ableton Link then.
Show me where can You loop, save and playback rearranged loops on prime players? Like let’s say 8 loops at the same time from one deck?
@hellnegative time stretch algorithm can’t keep up. It is always delayed against prime decks or any ableton link. Tempo changes on akai gear always waits a bit before changing tempo, that makes it unusable in dj environment. Ask @EthanLeo - he had the same problems
Semantics, my friend.
Have you taken your design to anyone else?
This I will keep to my self. As No official response was from inMusic.
Fair enough.
Im using a Maschine+ for live looping currently. Ive never had a live situation where a tempo change was needed while doing a hybrid live pa/dj set (techno, tech house, and minimal house in my use-case). That aside, I just ran a test with link in serato and maschine. There was a slight lag in tempo change in Maschine, but it was nothing a quick tap to the platter couldnt fix.
The DJS1000 also lags during tempo change (the reason I never kept mine, as it was literally the only reason I bought it at the time as opposed to just using what I already had).
I wrote specifically about akai samplers having an unacceptable long lag in tempo change. I have and use also maschine plus, because of akai is unusable for that purpose. I play hardcore and up-tempo. Jumps between 180 to 210 on Akai results in a train wreck…
