Which content platform, and why?

I recently cancelled my Soundcloud plan and im looking at options for showcasing my mixes.

What are everyones thoughts on the best place to do it? im not bothered about getting traction or attention to them, just the most professional looking site and best value for money.

So far i think its a toss up between Mixcloud and Hearthis. I have a Mixcloud account already but i let it lapse so ill have to pay £80 a year to post more stuff. Hearthis seems like much better value at £30 but it has the most annoying thing about Soundcloud and that is the lack of ability to upload tracklists to the mixes. I also think the GUI doesn’t look quite as nice as Mixcloud.

Any thoughts?

I use Mixcloud where you can upload up to 10 recorded sessions for free no matter what length or size (as long as it stays within ‘acceptable’ boundaries I guess  ). The Mixcloud GUI indeed is quite straightforward. When it comes to getting traction Mixcloud might be the best choice from my humble point of view. Never heard of Hearthis - so thank you for sharing.

Yeah ive got 14 on there so i don’t want to delete any as ill probably have to delete 5 in order to add another (mine were carried over when the rules changed). Im leaning towards Mixcloud again but appreciate the thoughts of others.

Sound cloud is the most stable with the best mobile experience.

Mixcloud is meh, and the mobile experience is mid.

Hear this has a great website but it also has lots of technical issues (likely due to crappy async programming practices) and the mobile experience is absolute crap.

I have been with SoundCloud amid the spam floods because it gives the best listening experience on mobile and desktop. IMHO it sets the standard for user experience.

The lack of tracklist on Soundcloud makes it a complete no go for me now though, the fact the haven’t addressed it 15yrs later or whatever is unforgivable.

To be honest, for playing music and mixes around the house or in the car, the Mixcloud interface is spot on. It has the playback essentials where they should be. I like the standard layout as that goes though all the other apps I use like BBC Sounds, Apple Music & Amazon Music.

I don’t need a glossy interface with large images or a graphical seek bar. For me, usability trumps the glossy graphics but I’m sure others will want the Spotify-style look.

Interesting how they all look. Thanks @djliquidice for the screenshots. It’s a good comparison.

They probably won’t ever. DJs are not their target, where Mixcloud certainly focuses on us.

Usability and design. This is where it’s alll subjective .

Not arguing at all, but explaining why some features may be more valuable to some than others.

With SoundCloud scrubbing is super easy with one thumb, where with the others it’s not. The others provide a more “traditional” playback experience (think early smartphone music apps).

All of this is subjective

For whatever we like / dislike about these cloud services - what an amazing time to be alive that we even have such choices .

Am I right in thinking Mixcloud have now placed restrictions on how many times a free user can listen to a mix over a period?

That’s a bit of a bummer if they have.

I use Mixcloud Pro and I have over 150 mixes public and some mixes are private from gig recordings.

Soundcloud never worked so well for me so I stopped using it.

Yeah. All streaming platforms are getting stupid on restrictions to clinch onto revenue. My wife to kicked out of Spotify this week because she didn’t verify her mailing address through email. Wait what tf?

Yeah - this is what keeps me off Mixcloud, as a listener the experience is pretty poor. I’ve had issues when trying to restart a mix from the middle where it decides I’ve listened too many times :man_shrugging:

But then SoundCloud never seems to be able to remember my place so is also imperfect….

Ive just discovered the absolute pain of trying to use one of the Engine file formats as a tracklist in Mixcloud… Jesus.

It seems that the file formats provided by Engine are essentially useless for this task.

Is it per chance JSON?

I have used Mixcloud, Soundcloud and iHeart Mixcloud wins for me, the interface, the sound quality. I pay, I listen to myself and others on there.

It’s all subjective I guess.

I have been really happy with Audio.com and impressed with the simplicity, it highlights me and my works nothing else

Well in all fairness to soundcloud.

It was first designed for single songs and not full mixes hence why there is no way to add tracklists.

Mixcloud was there for full mixes etc.

However after over 15 years with both services, since they have now both implemented a subscription/ paid for service, they gave gone down the loo for me. And I no longer use them…

I use youTube lol its free!

I have had 2 videos taken down on Youtube, they aren’t even monetised, so that’s down the drain for me now.
