So Pioneer is soon to release two new items in the forms of new turn tables and also the Rev 5 so it got me wondering what will Denon be bringing out? Does Denon need to bring out any new hardware at present? Personally I would like to see an LC6000m, I maybe in the minority on that one but it would be a nice addition to my set up.
Denon could do with a new/alternative mixer as well the x1850 whilst being competent is not revolutionary and I think this where Denon is the least competitive certainly having an alternative would be welcomed.
It would appear Pioneer is trying to claw back some interest with these latest offerings.
I don’t think there’s a need right now. Maybe only “Plus” versions of other Primes, as they’ve done with the Prime 4 and the Prime 4 plus…. But then again, is someone who’s in the market for an SC6000 really going to have a desperate need to stream from Amazon Music ?
Prime is way ahead of Puoneer in terms of hardware development, features offered, and design.
Both companies are equal (in different ways) for hardware durability and longevity. However, as puoneer make you swap your entire hardware player/console every 2 or 3 years, you’re not going to own the unit 4 or 5 years down the line, when normal user wear’n’tear starts taking its toll on hammered buttons, stabbed cue buttons, roughly inserted/removed connectors etc… things which someone with an 8 year old SC5000 with quarterly updated firmware might notice eventually.
Prime definitively doesn’t need an “answer” to puoneers DVS deck (too limited a market base nowadays).
Other hardware releases for home-priced/hobbies/amateur/home streaming markets all based on the Engine DJ platform would be a great marketing surge… getting the masses onto Engine DJ and taking market slice, bit by bit, from rekordbox - that would be clever.
Prime 2 is arguably the most underrated standalone DJ unit ever made… most people just paid the extra couple of hundred quid for the 4 but then missed out on a great featured compact DJ unit.
Well, I’d like to see it. Maybe the Stanton brand which, of course InMusic got branding rights to a couple of years ago would help.
Think of it… someone walks into a DJ store…lots of brands to look at…. What software do they use? Pioneer uses Rekordbox
But wait, several Denon DJ models, several Numark models, and several Stanton models all use Engine DJ software …. I’ll go for one of those Engine ones please.
With Denon adding new features via software upgrades they have not needed to release new hardware just to contain an extra feature or two. I know which method I prefer.
Pioneer has several stocking fillers that would get the youngins. I feel this cohort may naturally graduate to rekordbox usb/cdj/rx after cutting their teeth.
Numark has several of them but they ship with Serato Lite. I feel this cohort may graduate to full Serato controllers when they graduate but may switch to Pioneers/Serato units.
The cheapest engine DJ hardware is still 700+ , cant find the regular mixstream for sale.
Ok I should have progressed that as “library software”
To someone that didn’t know the background influence of InMusic would see that only one brand really favours Rekordbox , where two or three brands favour Engine DJ as their chosen library software.
I see what you’re saying but I’m one of the ones that paid the few extra hundred quid for a prime 4 after investing in a 2 channel prime GO. I also think for a 2 channel device prime GO is underrated too.
They all have their value but with the launch of the GO and the SC range was a prime 2 needed…? However again all good devices in my opinion and based on where you were at the time, making any decision I don’t think served anyone badly considering the evolving updates from engine DJ.
Sometimes at home after a hard day I can just sit back or lye back with the prime go on my lap, the ease of the GO and what it can do, I’m still blown away even though I have the prime 4 with all the bells etc
Yh just wanted to see what others thought, I agree the prime 2 was decent not sure why they stopped making it- possibly they didn’t sell as many as they needed to? Having purchased an Sc live 4 biggest issue I have are the hot cue buttons they are different to the sc 6000 and prime go and I don’t understand why, I did not want a prime 4 or the plus simply due to the layout being too different to my x1850, I hope of there is an update to the sc live 4 that it has better buttons a bigger screen and in jog displays I don’t mind paying a little bit more for that but it should have had those features from the start.
All I know from my personal use case, a Prime go won’t cut it at gigs, too many caveats with size/level meters/lack of SSD slot etc. Likewise the Prime 4 was massive overkill, I didn’t need that size and weight, the 4 channels etc so would have been annoyed at having to carry it about, and try to store it in our house.
I can walk into a gig with an old record bag full of my cables, a monitor speaker and Prime 2 in a Magma case, in a single trip from the car… I set up in 10 mins then get mixing.
