What was the last DJ related item you bought?

I was toying with getting that around six months ago but yet to pull the trigger. I used to like Mixmeister back in the day and it’s got a similar vibe.

I bought a collection of Behringer UCA202 and UCA222 (whatever i could find actually) USB sound devices to do some experiments with my OBS overlay.

What I did with these is connect them to the analogue outputs of my SC6000M’s A-channel and wrote a small ALSA program to read the audio and emit the floating points so that the waveforms could be drawn in my OBS overlay.

Nothing special, just a stereo rca to 3.5mm jack for testing purposes. (out of all the cables I got lying around I didn’t have one or threw it out during a tidy up).

Anyway what I was doing is I have a site Bluetooth radio/mp3 speaker that runs off the same batteries that power all my tools, charges my phone as well (handy when I’m doing DIY) however because it doesn’t have a dsp in it to make it sound better than it is there’s no latency when using it in conjunction with my mixstream pro go inbuilt speakers.

Whilst not loud (20 or 30 watts), it has a different sound to the inbuilt pro go speakers but set both inbuilt speakers & this to the same volume gives a better sound overall than using inbuilt speakers alone.

This got me looking at the minirig sub, is it any good for those who have one? Have you ever run the little sub on its own as a test? Can I run the sub on it own through the main out in conjunction with the inbuilt speakers or do I have to use the sub with another minirig?

This is for just for a little extra bass when having a mix in the house/kitchen, if I’m having a proper session I’ll go down the shed with my K10s.

Failing that is there anything else like the minirig sub on the market you guys would no of that’ll compliment the mixstream pro go inbuilt speakers in the same way.

So I’ve taken the plunge (for scientific purposes) & bought a 2nd hand minirig sub from cex for £45, as I intend to run it through the main out on my mixstream pro go in conjunction with the onboard speakers for a bit more bass.

If it doesn’t work as intended I’ll link it to my site radio via aux or buy a 2nd hand minirig to go with it.

Advantages of buying from cex (sometimes) it comes with a 5 year warranty & a 14 day full refund return period should my experiment not go to plan or the speaker doesn’t work as it should ie blown/dead battery or just doesn’t charge.

FOSI AUDIO DAC Q4

Hello.

I use akai studio like sampler through channel 3 of my prime 4+. The sound from Jack conector of my macbook Air was too low so I bought a DAC to extract audio from USB conector, and power It Up.

Before, I got the sound from Jack to RCA and It makes me gain the channel to 75-80 % even when mac max volume output was adjusted.

Now, I have enough volume from MB Air at medium gain.

Regards.

Well they are not bought from new, but added some new speakers to my mobile setup.

2 HK Audio PR:O 15 tops and 2 B-52 Matrix 2000 subs with B&C 18TBX100 inside. (Picture is from before I changed the the last bass unit to the B&C)

Made the subs passive instead (pulled out the built in amplifier as it doesnt deliver enough Boom on its own)

Fresh paint and my logo on all 4 units

Quick update on my recent (scientific experiment) purchase.

Happy to report this minirig sub mk1 I purchased from cex for £45 works perfectly.

Now onto my experiment, the built in gain on this thing is a bit much, I know you’re supposed to use it with a normal minirig or another speaker (see pic) to send off the higher frequencies but this is what I’ve tried so far.

Using the built in speakers on the mixstream pro go & minirig sub via main out together, main sub volume set anything below unity also set bass eq lower than unity (at least this saves the inbuilt speakers from blowing) the bass this thing kicks out is impressive for it’s size, keep in mind this is the mk1 so I think it’s only 30 watts compared to the newer mk3.

I can only use this on low gain mode, high gain is just to much through the mixer you have practically kill the low end which leaves no scope to adjust when mixing, obviously the mixstream only has a main out which uses the same eq as the inbuilt speakers so setting everything to a middle ground is a bit of a faff however I could just plug in my site speaker (as above pic) & forget about the onboards altogether.

I feel this is where the sc live 4 would do better because you have a booth out with a separate eq from your main/inbuilt so you could plug the minirig sub into the booth out & kill the highs/mids just leaving the bass in conjunction with your inbuilt speakers.

At least now I can have a quick mix indoors with a decent bit of bass, instead of firing up the k10s down the shed & annoying the neighbors, because let’s face the inbuilt speakers might be ok on their own for certain types of music but for d&b they’re crap.

It was pleasure to work with him. He remixed my reference in nice quality. Can’t wait to collect more plates and switch to vinyl players! Audio Technica is pretty cheap for me and soon get one pair of “AT-LP140XP”

Had to replace my trusted Mordaunt-Short 308 subwoofer in the studio after a electrical group issue. Knobs of the internal amp were already a bit bad, but now the amp needs to be checked as well, in time… cannot part ways yet. The subwoofer sat at my feet when I’m behind my computer and broadcast mixer, so I also use it to rest my legs when I sit in my office chair.

Good “reason” for me to buy a new one immediately! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Downfiring and not too big: I went for the MB10 - Scansonic HD

This unit delivers lower, cleaner and really faster bass response than the MS-308SW above, so I’m very happy. Also the driver is 10-inch instead of 8-inch.

The Danish know how to make good speakers at reasonable pricing. @Engell

Scansonic actually makes some good stuff.

And nice looking as well :slightly_smiling_face:

Bought a pair of moving heads…Chinese, well priced, works with soundswitch/engine lighting.

Going Danish again:

I normally use the Grado DJ-100i stylus, which is great for recording, but I’m hoping the Ortofon will stay a bit sturdier with heavier use

Product info do state that both styli could be used for back cueing and less for scratching, so it might only be a feeling.

Great choice Reese, I’ve got the DVS version but bought the club stylus to swap (I know you’re not meant to but no way was I fronting for another full cart setup), they have a much nicer sound than the DVS with records, the DVS are a bit full on with the mids (which is what they are meant to do).

I like the replaceable levers too, I’ve come across so many of them snapped over the years.

Yeah I’m probably going to change the lever to black for a few euros to tone it down a bit. LOL.

Hahaha I’ve already had the ‘why did you have to buy red ones’ talk with the boss…. I had to calmly explain the ones with the nice colour don’t do the job I wanted.

I’ve aaaaaalways loved Concorde’s. Ever since seeing them in the late 90s. <3

Mate, until I upgraded a couple of years back, mine were from the 90s :man_facepalming:t3::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I had that with the Stanton 500’s. Until I had the revision, I changed to Grado.
