I have 70 files in windows explorer sorted in the right order for that playlist. (in this case using MP3TAG, I’ve replaced the existing track number with a number from 1-70)
When I drag those files, ordered by Track ID 1-70 into the playlist in engine they appear in
in a random order, nothing like 1-70
You can as others have pointed out, re-order them by bpm, artist etc, but if I had them just in an order of I want to play these files in order, and I had not done the track ID step. Then engine Desktop would have messed up the order.
Surely Engine should put them in the playlist in the same order as I drag them in.
are you talking about the filename having a number at the start?
If that is the case you need to use 01-70 not 1-70… in fact i would use 001-070 if i was you, then you have scope to have over 100 tracks in your playlist.
To compare, try it in excel to see how a database works as standard.
Right click anywhere on the main track screen & it’ll give you the option to reassign tracks in number order, this option only appears after adding extra tracks otherwise it just shows the normal analyze/re-analyze/delete/show in browser etc.
This has to be done with desktop software before re-syncing it to a usb/sd card which I presume you’re in.
Just incase I’ve misunderstood what you’re asking/trying to do there’s an option within the settings/profile display track by file name or meta data, you can check to see what option you’ve got.
The problem in general regarding numbering (including numbers in titles) is different software reads it differently.
An example here is Windows & engine os see 3 of my tracks in this order
1 day
100 miles & running
2 degrees
However my phone rearranges this to
1 day
2 degrees
100 miles & running
Because it’s taking into account number units (or not) & even in alphabetical order it arranges it that way because 100 is higher than 2.
The only other way around this would be re-label your tracks 001 onwards or 0001 if you have over 1000, unfortunately different software reads numerical orders differently depending on whether they’re taking units into account or not.
Sorry if I’ve gone off on one for no particular reason & this is of no relevance to you
I don’t want to manually reorder tracks in a playlist, I mean to sort by a specific column and making that the default order with one click, like Rekordbox has.
Ok, so as Andy says, you sort by the column then right click on any track in the playlist then select ‘renumber track order’, this will do what you want.
There are different types of playlists. M3U is one type, but different software uses different formats. As you didn’t say how you’d made the playlist, I was asking to clarify.
As it turns out, you weren’t using a playlist at all, as you said in a later post that it was just some files in a folder - so it was worth checking.
Ok right click on the tracks in the playlist. I get
Re-Analyze tracks.
Re-import
Remove from playlist
Remove from collection
Show in explorer. I don’t get the re-assign tracks option you mention.
No Engine DJ when you right click on Collection says Create Playlist.
This isn’t a general query, it’s under the engine DJ OS forum, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that people will refer to engine DJ desktop playlists as playlists is it not?
So yes I am using a playlist as Denon describes on Page 30 of the user manual.
How am I creating that Engine DJ Desktop Playlist - by follow step 3 of the user guide and dragging files in to that playlist.
Perhaps a quick read of the user guide may help you understand playlists?
I think you have to be in a playlist, not on the collection. Then right click on the column headers and select the ‘track #’ so you then have that column visible. Then you can order by your track number. After that you should be able to right click on a track and ‘renumber track order’ which should then change the order of all the numbers in the left hand column.
Then you should have clearly stated that , either in your first post, or when I asked you what kind of playlist you meant. In your reply to Stu C, you mentioned a folder of files, not any kind of playlist.
Clarity is everything. Going by the replies you’ve had since, it seems you’re the one who needs to read the manual.
