Strange and disturbing bugs since the 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 updates with various products

I wanted to share this Facebook fan page with you https://www.facebook.com/groups/denondjprimeseries/, where users are complaining about various bugs since the 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 updates with their Prime products, whether it’s the SC series, Prime 4, or 4+. I find this not very reassuring; I’d even say it’s quite frightening, depending on our usage.

I don’t know if people from the Denon DJ Team are looking at this page???

I’ve learned my lesson to not jump to the latest versions right away. 3.4.0 really burned me badly last summer with the slow down issue for the SC6000M and it took months to get rectified. :frowning:

Firstly, Facebook, no thanks :face_vomiting:, not touched it since before Covid and will never return.

I guess this could be an opportune time to open a discussion about Firmware updates. If your gear is running stable on a certain version, is there a need to be upgrading all the time? Does the FOMO take over and drown out the common sense and potential risks?

Not just DJ gear but i see it across all tech industries, people desperate to be ‘on the latest version’ without A: doing preperation in case it doesn’t work, or B: properly assessing the risks involved vs the supposed rewards? (looking at you Mac users who then complain your software isnt ready for their latest OS, AFTER updating).

Im on 4.0.0 now, it works, my gear is happy, i feel im at the end of the cycle for how far it can be pushed. Im sure plenty will chime in to tell me how wrong i am, and how i should expect way more etc etc, but im getting paid at gigs still and the music is still flowing for 4/5hrs solid with no interruption.

Same on Reddit btw. https://www.reddit.com/r/DenonPrime/comments/1jp0qk5/touch_screen_not_working_after_update_431/

As for the update obsession, I agree. Seen it so many times in so many places.

People buy something then complain because there’s been no update since they’ve had it - whether that’s a year, a month, a week…

OTOH if/when an update does get released, they complain about that too.

Im sure you’ve seen the furore surrounding Fujifilm autofocus too, how an ‘update’ apparently broke everyones cameras?

My question is, if their cameras were working well, was there any real need to update them? regardless of what marketing fluff was attached to the release notes.

The extreme reactions they post too, like “If this bug doesn’t get fixed in 24 hours, I’m throwing it in the bin and never buying anything from [company name] again”.

There’s been a guy on the VDJ forum complaining about what he claims is a “bug” because he’s getting an audio glitch when trying to run at 1ms latency. Nothing anyone says can change his mind. He’s determined he needs 1ms latency and that’s it.

4.3.0 never fixed the one bug I reported (which was acknowledged and sent to the devs) so I’m going back to 4.2.0 because I know that’s stable. Apple music is of no interest to me.

And since the problems encountered 100% are often linked to the hardware and not to the user, it’s well recognized, eh! lol :rofl :rofl :rofl

Except that we are in a world of consumption and always MORE MORE and even if it will be features that will not necessarily be used! These users will more easily express their anger on a problem encountered than to say thank you to the manufacturer / developer who provides updates that will allow to innovate, improve and give value to the products so that it lasts over time and this for free and as indicated by a large number of non-angry users, it is possible to downgrade and wait for a fix and it will be especially important for people who encounter problems to indicate them on the official website so that an investigation is carried out by the development team, the developers are not clairvoyant or sorcerers and they cannot have a view on all the pseudo Facebook pages or other forums, they have other things to do, unless it is things communicated on an official Fan page of the manufacturer and their forum in this case, a message from the developer is needed to reassure the user(s).

I’m with you STU-C and don’t update anything who’s running well.

Prime GO running 4.1.0 (Bluetooth Out was the gamechanger for updating).

There no bugfixes or innovative stuff that important to update.

I agree @STU-C. I stopped at 4.1, now I wish I had stayed on 4.0 because the database changed between those and it is difficult to go back. Everything had been fine with 4.1 until a serious sync issue arouse out of no where (see Vanishing Playlists). First issue ever in 4 years :frowning:

You might be ok on 4.1 you know. I would check to see if the DB changed. I had to fully rebuild mine from a Serato upload in order to go back, but luckily I keep it mainly up to date anyway so it was easy enough. It’s not the way to go though.

It is a great discussion and I would love to Commisurate…but this really ■■■■■■ me off, I am spitting nails. Both my GO and Prime 4 asked me to update at the beginning of the week and I was in a good mood…so I just clicked it because I have not had any issues with updates. Then I got busy with a full production load this week and I had to prep folders for a giant fundraiser DISCO party this weekend. Anyway, I had to meet with clients all yesterday and did not fire up the Prime 4 in standalone mode till today and check out my folders. Sure enough…nothing is syncing properly…I am out of my mind. Sure it is easy to call me an idot and say that I should not have updated on a week when I had a gig…but I always have gigs!! And SERIOUSLY…we should not have to worry about it working or not. That is why we pay $2000 plus for this hardware. Honestly…this really ■■■■■!!!

I can understand your frustration.

I have the feeling that all DJ software is just a copy-and-paste product. Everything has to do everything. This affects the quality of updates.

It used to be well-known:

Serato Scratch Live - Best DVS.

Traktor - Best MIDI.

Virtual DJ - Affordable all-rounder for beginners.

I want stability from Denon without any bells and whistles, and not just DJ software like any other.

Unfortunately, the whole architecture of prime devices is more of a PC (that uses Linux as OS) so in that regard it is a DJ software, it’s inherently less stabile than previous generations (predating inmusic takeover of denondj brand).

I don’t understand who writes on Facebook! Facebook is not the Denon DJ forum! However I see people who always have problems! I have two Prime 4 plus and a Mixstream Pro and I have no problems, all updated to 4.3.1

It’s just as official as the forum and you can actually get better responses there.

Er, no - VirtualDJ is not “for beginners”.

There is never a guarantee that whatever you report will be resolved. Their house, their priorities, their rules.
