Sorry what features does Tidal have that spotify does not?
Sound quality. Better search and sort. More dj friendly content. Better Playlists.
Stems too I believe, on some platforms.
TBH Iāve not noticed much difference in sound quality between streaming providers - but then Iām playing on DJ kit through PA speakers into acoustically imperfect spaces full of noisy people.
I also believe that Spotify has the best front end, and due to sheer amount of users (because of the free tier) a far broader selection of playlists and better suggestion algorithms.
Even though I canāt DJ with Spotify right now, I still use it (free) as a starting point then convert playlists over.
Also, Spotify has a much bigger and/or more relevant catalogue for (North)European music.
Only downside on Tidal is that if two or more artists have the same name, it will merge them into one.
I think that issue applies across the board. I read recently that one artist was receiving comments about her new album - but she hadnāt released one. Turned out someone else was generating music based on an AI simulation of her voice, and uploading it under her name.
AI slop for the win.
Coming to your favourite streaming service.
1/3 of AI slop is on Deezer, streaming services and algorithms spoon feed you music making you believe youāre curating or āfindingā music. IMHO all the heavy lifting is being eroded out of the DJs hands.
I would really love it, if Engine Desktop app would have been optimized to perform with Prime 4+ with USB-C.
This is how I prep for gigs with Serato now. Itās soo much faster to set loops, all cue points and tags with the controller attached. The ability to write notes and try mixes instantly. Love it!![]()

Yes, also Asian music. I think it has the best over all.
Serato is still my favourite platform (after vinyl), but the match feature on Engine OS feels like a huge miss in Serato now ive been using it at gigs on the Prime. Really useful for when you have no plan and just want to find tracks you dont play very often.
Looks like Spotify are dealing with it:
Curious myself but they are being strict as they arenāt even allowing it within the iOS app.
Yeah, thatās a good point ā algorithms make discovery easier, but they also take some of the creativity and effort out of a DJās role. Itās a tricky balance between convenience and artistry.
Yes, VDJ 2026 has just been released in EA (early access) with a couple of AI based features (display of song lyrics and track suggestions) and more/new FX, with an FX organiser.
Stephane Clavel (the big boss @ Atomix) has said that theyāre awaiting approval from both Spotify and Apple, so they can add those to the streaming options.
Heās also said that a fluid beatgrid system is comingā¦
