Hello all, has been a while since i have posted a topic; however, due to thi,s I thought I would ask all you guys who have been busy updating your players since 4.0.1
I am still happily sitting on OS.4.0.1, and everything is going well, only one frozen screen. But all else is good.|
My question to you all is, having been using this Os for a while. A number of updates have now passed.
Without the need or requirement of both Stems and any streaming services. (As this is the only improvement I have read about). Is there any other things that have been changed in the OS yet?|
Like star ratings, ability to edit these on the standalone players?
Can we change the prep lists into play lists yet?
Are there any other significant improvements to the general running of the players, or other functions missed?
No need for any Streaming services (I don’t subscribe to ANY).
I don’t require stem separation (I have this function on my MPC software and Hardware, and have only used it once tbt).
Other than that, I normally work on the premise, if it is not broken, I don’t try to fix it.
Thank you in advance for your advice and insights.
Like you, I’m not using stems currently. 4.0 is very stable, and I’ve been using it since summer of '24. If there is no compelling reason to upgrade, don’t.
I was recently chatting with someone who upgraded to iOS 26 and it messed up their DJM-REC install. AlphaTheater told them that iOS 26 isn’t officially supported at this time. This person really learned the valuable lesson of “Don’t upgrade unless you need to.”
All that said, in full transparency, I’m considering upgrading to 4.3.4 (released today).
The versions between 2.4.0 and 4.3.4 are gone from the desktop versions download and release notes page: Desktop and OS Downloads + Manuals | Engine DJ. They are still in the Engine OS downloads page. Have I short-circuited and those are located elsewhere?
There is this in 4.3.4 “Fixed a security vulnerability identified in the Engine Remote Library; we highly recommend that all users upgrade.”
Thank you for the information, However the 4.0.1 is still with the older database, and the updated database is on the 4.1 If I recall.
This is one of the main reasons I also wondered what the change was, other than when it was newly released it messed up my usb stick, and I rolled back to 4.0.1 This was back in 2024.
Yea, I get confused on that. I’m on 4.1.0 with desktop and players and know I can’t go back. In the Engine OS listings under 4.1.0 it states:
Important Note: Because of database performance optimizations added with this release, Collection Databases used in Engine DJ 4.1.0 are only compatible with version 4.0.1 or later.
The placement of the statement is confusing, because that should gave been stated on the 4.0.1 release notes as it implies that the 4.0.1 is compatible with 4.1.0 and beyond.
Sync stopped working correctly for me at 4.1.0 and I had to switch to Lexicon DJ for database management and syncing to Engine OS USB.
Edit: and then there is this on the Engine website:
I can recommend 4.2.
It’s considered as very stable release, according to feedback here, on reddit, youtube, etc…
There is never a 100% guarantee, of course. But I had zero issues with that version on my Prime 4 and Live 4, and hence kept 4.2 for many months. I am no heavy Stems user even, nor does my Prime 4 benefit from Apple Music. But 4.1 brought some other major improvements, especially for my usecase, next to the updated database, while 4.2 had further stability improvements and recording normalization.
In terms of 4.3.x I read ‘far’ more problems (in relative terms!), with several SC Live 4 users affected by failing outputs, though it seems still unclear if that is related to the firmware, a bad production batch, or a combination of both.
Hi, and thank you for your detailed response, I appropriate your insight.
I was thinking of moving up to 4.1 or 4.2, But still waying up the pros and cons. I use a S6000 so not sure it will bring much new to the table?
I would love the new function to actually change prep-lists into an actual play list.
oh, really I’m guessing it is to do with over wifi / streaming services. ( I only DJ at home, and haven’t even set up the wi-fi on my player).
Lucky I have a copy of both 4.1. and 4.2 on my laptop.
cheers for the information! Appreciate it.
On a side note, I just cheeked the downloads page on the denon-dj website, and all versions are still downloadable.
He means the desktop software, as in the engine dj library management software for windows & mac, it jumps from 2.4.0 to 4.3.4 unlike the engine os for our players.
Just make sure you’ve got a working copy of your database. Back up any database you use with it just incase there is any issues during the update (unlikely but good practice).
