Prime 4 as a carry-on in flights

Hi guys,

I am travelling overseas at the end of the month. Can anyone advise me if can travel with my prime 4 as a carry on baggage? I have a UDG Creator Soft Flight Case that I purchased along with the controller.

Earlier, I had the same type of case for DDJ-1000, so I would travel with that as a carry on baggage in different airlines (even tho it was above the carry on limit). But the Prime 4 is slightly bigger in size!

Any suggestions?

UPDATE:

I flew yesterday from Dubai to Riyadh. And I was able to carry on inside the plane. Didn’t have to say the airline staff anything to convince them.

I flew with the UDG hard case, and yes, it fits the overhead locker easily. You just have to check in a little earlier so that you are able to find the space easily.

You may get a different reply depending on location & airlines used.

Certainly here in the UK, you’re not gonna get away with that as hand luggage on RyanAir!

I am worried with if check it in, as it is handled manually in a pretty bad way. I have seen those people literally throwing your bags in the aircraft. :frowning:

You could put it in a locked flight case… yes bit more weight but a lot more secure than the udj type bags. Whole prime 4 setup in flight case weighs just on 20kg but it is quite large so doubt any airline wiild allow it as “carry on”

Yeah, I think I should get the hard-case. But the hard case in itself weigh a little over 14 Kgs.

My swan case weighs 11kg works very well.

I live about 5 miles from where they are made, legendary flight cases.

Yup you got to really give it some to.damage them significantly

Yeah I looked them up. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find them here in UAE. I would either have to get them imported or look for MAGMA/UDG.

By the way, might be a little stupid to ask, but I think I can fit that soft case in big luggage bag. What if I put it in the luggage back and stuff the remaining area with clothes etc? :joy: Too risky?

Yeah you want a proper case for it ideally… I have a magma semi hard case and then a deck saver cover for my prime 2, works a treat, and much lighter than the metal flight cases.

Yes @STU-C , that’s my major concern actually, the weight.

I also use the Magma to transport my Prime 4 and to protect it a little more… I put the Decksaver on, it fits without any problem and at least everything is well fixed.

I’ve been carrying my P4 with it for 2 and a half years already!

Thank you @DjMell26 ! It looks quite protective with the deck-saver providing an additional layer of protection. Have you also been flying with it?

I have similar UDG bag for it already.

Mine looks extremely similar to that setup above only a bit smaller obviously.

Unfortunately, without the decksaver level protection it’s means. Certainly the Magma is shelled, but in the center the foam would have deserved to be a little thicker, because it does not plate enough, knowing that in addition the foam loses its firmness over time. It is also necessary to plan for a possible accident, especially if something weighing around 10kg would slip on it, the Decksaver will reinforce the protection, and moreover with the heat, the Magma would tend to bulge slightly in the center. Other advantages of the Decksaver, it minimizes the risk of damaging the jog wheels due to unforeseen pressure on them over a long period of time and it also protects all faders and knobs. I even stuck a foam in the Decksaver where there is the screen, like that during transport it dampens vibrations, when traveling on unmaintained roads, you can transport it without worry since everything is very well wedged .

I purchased a Swan case when the Prime 4 first launched and the foam on the lid top was too deep and crushed the faders. They sent me some new foam for the top and apologised and started that’s how it came from the supplier. I wants sure if they meant the actual case so assumed that some was bought in now.

I then bought a Magma soft case like the one pictured above and use that depending on what I’m doing gig-wise.

Maybe they mean the foam? Its a barn on a farmyard behind an old hall and hotel, I cant imagine they can keep up with demand so perhaps they have outsourced the production of some lines.

Just for fun - try arguing it’s a musical instrument at check-in. I’ve tried this before but never got away with it. YMMV…

… and Y.T.M.N.D.

You could announce its top secret military equipment, and you have diplomatic immunity. but i wouldn’t suggest you try it in UAE their airpory security dont have much of a sense of humour

Too large for carry on. You’ll have to check it in.

Two years ago I travelled from the U.S. with my MCX8000 (close in dimension to the P4) to Bermuda and later to Cuba. I bought a decksaver and packed it in a large suitcase placing it between clothing. It travelled well on both trips.
