I’m honestly under the impression that at least some of the so called reviews are paid-for/sponsored.
An objective review of anything should compare the product being reviewed to the competition. The video reviews out mostly just used the press release and the write-ups were even worse.
There’s actually already some incorrect information coming from some of the reviews when they start comparing the two brands… and even sometimes comparing the new model to the old models.
I just looked at the Canadian price. If I wanted pioneer I would go for the xdjrz model. They both cost the same but you can do more obviously with the all in one rz.
of course. in the ones i’ve seen so far it was painfully obvious that they’re holding back. some even tried quite hard to not make it look bad given the poor number of improvements.
Same reason all of these sources don’t share any potential leaks of the products. They had the players in house already before even the original Instagram video. DJTechTools was “analyzing” every frame of the announcement video, saying it would be dual layer, knowing for sure that is wasn’t.
Given the write-ups appear in “News” or “News and Editorial” sections of the websites, dictionary definitions disagree with you. Additionally, reviewers/industry commentators etc are also commonly referred to as journalists as its the closest matching term.
I agree it’s a close fit, but all the sites were talking about fit under the rubric “enthusiast press” far far more than news or journalism. The power dynamics are very different. It’s not as straightforward as folks getting paid for stuff, but if one of them goes a little too critical maybe they don’t get an early version of the next product, know what I mean? It’s a bit of a balance but the companies really hold all the power here.
I’d guess the term journalist could apply to anyone that types a few words about something topical and shares those words maybe for some sort of gain, be it fiscal or benefits.
Loose in the same way that anyone that presses Play on some DJ gear is now a DJ. Lol
You know that Denon DJ did exactly the same thing?
Crossfader, Mojaxx and DigitalDjTips (and others, who declined) have been invited to Florida (+probably NAMM) - all expenses covered - to talk about the new Prime devices this year.
These media guys run their own businesses, so there’s no compliance rules in place (which most big companies have for a reason).
Even if they were probably told to honestly review (including criticism), being invited to such an expensive trip puts a lot of pressure on a person to return a favor.
Why would it be a bad thing if Pioneer DJ did exactly the same?
I don’t like that approach, as it will prevent independent and honest journalism.
But is there an alternative? All of these media outlets are small, self-employed guys who probably don’t make tons of money out of running free blogs / vlogs. They can’t afford to buy every unit they will review, or fly around the world just to give you free coverage of trade shows. Also, they heavily rely on good industry relations to get inside news.
If people would start to pay for independent journalism, the reviews would be different.
But how many of you have actually thought about paying a monthly fee to their favorite blog to read great articles?
I agree with you, but I find Mojaxx honest enough to not be a brand preacher. He tells you if a device is suitable for a certain type of DJ. The pros and cons etc. His personal views and his personal choices.
Of course they get units to get viewers, but the last one from Phil, for me, sounded almost like a commercial…
Glad I am not the only one who has noticed that. They all seemed pretty surprised, downright embarrassed when being confronted with the flood fave of complaints and disappointed users who clearly had expected more. I will eagerly await the first comparision videos to see who is truly objective and not repeating the ever-same nonsense “it’s a great unit but not meant for you” argument.
Speaking about that, I wonder if examples like said 1.0A USB port had been requested by those ominous 200 Spartans …
So far looking at some of the YouTube djs mixing (hotcue juggling) it seem that they favour hot cues a,b,g,h. They avoid the hot cues directly above the jog.
