So a quick update regarding my situation with Denon.
After informing about the fact they no longer do out of warranty repair and to go to a 3rd party repairer, they firstly assured me I could get spares from them directly or they could sell spares to me or the 3rd party repairer I use to replace any parts needed.
The issue with my mixer is not the common earth issue and is infact the audio out PCB assembly,Part Code:TWPC16A00502,Description: Audio Output PCB V2.
So I again contacted InMusic Europe at Ash Vale UK, and guess what, they can NOT supply me the spare part and advised me to go to Instrumentalparts.com who are based in USA.
The PCB board in question has a lot of dry solder joints and the issues on the board are the relays marked A5W-K made by Takamisawa and poor surface mount solders.
The clicking is 1 one or more of the relays not switching to hold.
InMusic also seem to be NOT holding spares for lots of kit that is out of production, probrably as holding spares is an asset cost to the company and inventory costs go on the books.
In short they have brushed their hands with me and seem to prefer forcing me to buy a new mixer then have me repair a little used item that cost me ÂŁ1200 and is only just 5 years old.
I can buy the relays cheap and will find a good repairer before paying for parts to be shipped from USA for a hole new PCB assembly.
I just feel that the customer care at InMusic is almost non existant, it took them 2 weeks just to finally tell me to shop else where for the part I tried to order and buy from them and a week to decide to tell me they do not do repairs outside of warranty in the first place.
Come on inMusic Brands step it up or you will lose your place in the market.
Dry solder joints would just need to be touched up, right? You sure itâs the relays that are the problem and not bad capacitors causing the relays to malfunction?

âSome people will get lucky with this fix for a short time like i did, but then i dug abit deeper in to this problem. The problem is a row of 25v 100uf capacitors next to the relays on the top board with all the inputs and outputs. the capacitors are rubycon pk series and maybe denon bought a big batch of bad capacitors. You will see two relays next to the xlr outputs and some more further down the board, change the 25v 100uf capacitors next to the relays, it will stop this issue my advice is use 105c low esr 25v 100uf caps, when i measured the original capacitors they had halfed in capacitance and were around 56uf this causes the relays to chatter or vibrate causing loss of output or distortion.â
Thanks Riticuli.
I looked at the capacitors and none had domed on the top, a usual sign they are failing.
I am also no electronics expert, although I do some soldering in my job none is surface mount and my home soldering set is ok but my eye sight means I need to buy a good magnifier to do the repair as well as earthing strap etc as I don`t want to have induced failure by trying a DIY fix.
I was hoping to get a complete new PCB audio out assembly from InMusic & do a complete swap, then not stress to much doing some repair on the old faulty board by replacing the relays and sorting the dry joints, thus having a spare.
I may well replace all the capacitors or get someone who really knows their stuff to do it for me.
I am at present looking at finding a repairer locally.
MrWilks mentioned https://www.tassservice.co.uk who are quite close to me, and I may try them for my repair work.
Yeah the guy at TASS was pretty knowledgeable (Iâve forgot his name now). They go down to component level for DJ gear so it shouldnât be too much of an issue for him.
Luckily I didnât need him in the end but he is only 10 minutes up the road so if I ever do, itâs reassuring.
There are probably thousands of âgeneral consumersâ who are highly talented and capable of doing complex repairs.
It wasnât that long ago that I was still doing complex repairs on PCBs, I have no formal training, unfortunately due to my diminishing eyesight I had to stop as even with my microscope I could not focus on what I was doing, bummed.
I donât doubt it - Iâve worked for decades doing testing and repairing of electronics, but still, the manufacturers are not going to openly release technical data on their products to anyone and everyone, on the offchance that a few of them know what theyâre doing.
With all due respect regarding your opinion as a staff member, it is of no help to me or other owners of your products in a similar situation to my post.
If I had known that my quite expensive X1800 mixer had such a short shelf life (and more so no long term support of after care) that lasts less then 5 years I would have bought a cheap behringer mixer that can do the same for a quarter the cost and still probrably last a good few years, and it would not feel so bad when it does fail after little use by a carefull owner.
If InMusic does not want to provide us in the UK support or even the spares to get my mixer fixed then perhaps looking forward InMusic may lose the customer base they have.
I know for sure my next mixer and decks will not be from any of the InMusic family ( Rane Numark or Denon).
I am going to sell my MPX as it is out of warranty and thats not a good place to be if you own Akai (InMusic again), all my M-Audio is already sold, so to will be my other InMusic kit.
I wont be buying any new Moog synths as you have now swallowed up that company. For me it is like Alpha Theta have won the DJ market by default due to the way things are with InMusic. You can not even give us a UK list of approved third parts repairers so its like you as a company do not care for aftermarket support, you`ve had my money and now I am not on your radar unless looking to re-buy.
For me it is more cut and dryâŚRegardless of which InMusic product I own, and regardless of my location I expect the same service as any other product owner or location globally.
That also applies regardless of it being your cheaper or more expensive products.
For all the InMusic brands it should be the same ethics and care.
Thanks
As the author of this post I would like to point out that Staff do delete and censor posts if they feel critisism.
Regarding out of warranty repairs @ Rob_Gaudet.
Censoring posts proves my point that your company have bad ethics regarding UK owners and warranty/ out of warranty repair and servicing as well as spares availability.
Personally do not post on my posts RobâŚplease
Your opinions are not wanted from the post author.
Is this forum for InMusic promotion and then when you do not like the post direction your Forum to censor or is this forum actually for owners of the products you sell??
As post author I would like to point this out but suspect this may also be deleted.
Thanks
For the record, Iâve made 4000 posts (a little bit sad) since I joined. I also had a broken Prime 2 that I sent back for repair, received back with the issue still apparent and sent back for a 2nd time to finally get a resolution (total 3 months lost). I documented the whole process on here and never had a single post censored, and over the course of 4000 posts Iâve had barely anything deleted, despite one of the more divisive people on the forum at times.
My advice, have a look at why you think your posts might actually be deleted.
I saw and read his post before it got deleted and saw no reason why it would be deleted. Someone from admins touchy around the subject of non warranty repairs?
Because I upset an inmusic staff member with a fact about servicing and repair, and parts availability in UK.
I was not rude so you read what you like but I am just pointing out they do censor what they feel is true crititsism.
Rob said it was not cut and dry and what I responded to is regarding how different product ownership and location does give different quality of service.
not really ethical if your in a losing location for customer service.
But you have your opinion STU-C.
At least I will not delete or censor you.
Thanks STU-C
Thatâs fair enough then if you werenât rude. I never saw the post, was only commenting from experience as to what Iâve seen warrants a delete previously.
No worries Stu, and thanks Slay for money.
If you read all my comments on my posts and other members posts you will see I am bluntly honest but always polite.
I am quite annoyed that my comments have been censored and do feel I have a valid point reguarding warranty and out of warranty repair, also parts availabilty.
I have no problem being questioned so that is fine, but my point still stands as a true reflection on customer service and this forum maybe being censored as this is my fisrt experience of being silenced by staff over a point of view.
At least as forum members we can try and maintain honesty for us.
I will say though, the comment posted on the other thread isnât great, the last part particularly I would put in the bracket of reasonable grounds to remove. You donât need to add that stuff to invalidate an otherwise useful post.
Yeah,I did edit out the anger about the CEO of InMusic so fair point.
But I am sticking to the rest about build quality and the next big Denon release.
If they do not support there is no point in considering them as a long term ownership.
But tit for tat I will give you that one STU
Thanks
