New generation of prime 4 plus? 2nd generation?

Hello,

after selling my prime 4 plus and switching to pioneer I missed several features of engine os. That’s why I ordered a new prime 4 plus which arrived today. Immediately I noticed 3 different things which changed:

  • brighter LEDs all over the unit
  • new and better illuminated sweep button (see my earlier posts in future requests that was something I found really bad even in low light clubs)
  • new deck layer buttons

Can anyone confirm this? Is there anything more which has also changed? I even compared my unit to my pictures of my first one. and indeed these things changed.

Good Morning

Good Morning Rene,

we talked about the button “sweep fx” problem.

I attached the new buttons.

Hi Marc

You can scroll down this page and read all the various release notes of what has changed or been added to the device.

Hi Stu-C,

I know this, but I think there have been made hardware changes. I mean it is obvious that the buttons changed.

My first Prime 4 Plus had black buttons overall. Now the deck layer button are illuminated itself. not the figure is illuminated but the whole button. same happenend to the sweep buttons as well. not the letters are illuminated only but the whole button.

and my personal feeling is that the whole unit is illuminated brighter now. I mean this is perfect that they did these changes!

thats why I asked if there are other hardware changes as well?

here is the picture of the “first generation”

What are you talking about?

Ah ok, I know one of the changes was to make the buttons brighter but didn’t realise they had actually changed them out

Yeah. Let’s see if this user need booting and blocking.

Yeah, those buttons have changed to the original Prime 4 style buttons.

It looks like a minor revision from the feedback that they’ve had. It’s either that or it’s a return and someone ordered and replaced the buttons with a Prime 4. I’m going with the first option though.

There’s also been some tweaking of the button behaviour/light output recently in firmware on this model and you never know if components change as that happens generally through the lifespan of a product. We don’t always see these changes on the outside. It’s only when a problem occurs do we notice and one example is the Prime 4 white couldn’t have the screens dimmed even though it was an identical model to the black Prime 4 (just different colour) and it had to have a firmware update to fix it. It turns out there was new screens. You’d have never known had that issue not come out.

Having just the text illuminated on a button looks much sleeker but in practical terms you’d generally illuminate the edges of the button as a ‘target’ for the finger. While these new buttons don’t follow the same design language as the rest of them I think they’re much more usable and just goes to show they’re listening to feedback even if it’s not acknowledged.

Welcome back to the Prime 4 family and enjoy stems!

Oh and this is my Prime 4 (MK1).

yes I think it is very useful revision. and they listen to the users.

I think it is as you said. it is a revision because if you compare the buttons to the new white edition of the prime 4 plus indeed these buttons are the same.

But still nobody knows if they strengthened the plastic around the view button to stop it collapsing though.

I just use the on screen library button to avoid the risk now, been doing it ever since 4.0 and the new style GUI.

I don’t know. It looks very similar to the normal button.

In general, I really like that Denon dj takes users comments seriously and improves products based on community feedback. This gives a lot of more value to the products than only money. The continuous support, even for oldest gear, continues improvements and QOL upgrades. This is how dj gear world should function.

I’d like to think so.

I know they changed the design of the Rane paddle FX switches due to similar issue. I saw the YouTube video where one guy carries out a mod using hot melt glue to fill that area while the revised paddles were sent to him.

I’d like to think they know what gets returned to the service centres often and further improve on the parts. Little things like changing these buttons show they do make those micro adjustments during life cycles and I’m all for that.

They didn’t change anything in terms of hardware. After updating to version 4.1.0, they started to glow brighter.

It seems that on some models, the number in a layer button is illuminated. On others, the knob itself is, but not the number on it.

Here’s a screenshot of a new Prime 4+ from a buddy of mine:

This is from earlier in this thread:

So, it definitely seems that there actually are some minor changes it the hardware. I can also recall some newer models have the sampler being labeled above the pads, while older haven’t. Maybe even newer models will also get the stems label, who knows.

You compare two versions, white and black, and even on the official Denon DJ website you can see that they have different buttons. Denon DJ Prime 4+
