New generation of prime 4 plus? 2nd generation?

You’re right, sorry for my mistake

no problem, that’s why I asked.

Denon is known for their surprises in a good way (like the bluetooth option) which first nobody knew that there was a module in all their hardware.

Oh yes they did! Bluetooth was mentioned in the FCC specs, which IIRC were discovered prior to any units shipping.

…and to add, IIRC my SC5000Ms have a Bluetooth logo on the retail box.

And it’s in the manual.

I did initially include a sentence about the box, but couldn’t find a pic online (or my box) to confirm, so left that part out. :+1:

I had to think myself after putting that. I wasn’t sure if it was a Mandela effect.

I was aware of these differences for a while, but didn’t report, as I thought I am the only nerd out there who even noticed it. Happy, this is not the case. Anyway:

From what I observed and analyzed based on social media, my local sellers, Ebay, Kleinanzeigen, etc. these changes were done roughly 3-6 months after launch.

  • Different deck select buttons
  • Different Sweep FX buttons
  • White rims around the EQ + filter knobs (similar to X1850)

Upper image shows an ‘earlier’ unit, matching the product renders. Lower image is the ‘updated’ version.

And believe it or not, there was a third ‘prototype-variant’ for the demo and early review units, which lacked the ‘Sampler’ font:

Does it come by a surprise? For me, no. The stock jog tension adjust on the OG Prime 4 got quickly changed right after release (I just don’t remember if they were too stiff or too loose, but this was discussed somewhere), and on the OG Prime 4 Limited, they didn’t just change the color but also replaced ‘Engine’ with ‘Engine DJ’.

Oh, and for all nostalgia fans… this was my favorite player for a long time, it was true addiction (until I got the 900s), so of course I remember even these silly details:

Top detective work! I think some of the initial batch missing the Sampler text made it to retail as I have one. I ordered it on release day.

I guess the next iteration will add Stems text uner the hot cue button.

In the Prime 4 tutorials from back then in 2019, the unit has different loop encoders.

Also, the Prime 4 has the text “4-DECK STAND-ALONE PROFESSIONAL DJ CONSOLE” whereas the Prime 4+ says “4-DECK STAND-ALONE DJ CONTROLLER”. So, the 4+ is not professional anymore, and it is now a controller rather than a console

Edit: “master” has also been replaced by “main”, at least on the 4+. Not sure whether there are also OG Prime 4’s with the new naming.

Yeah, that ‘professional’ label made me chuckle as well :stuck_out_tongue:

I wasn’t aware about those loop encoders, interesting!

‘Main’ has been applied everywhere for a while now, starting with the first Mixstream Pro.

Because companies want to avoid “master” for the softies in this world… In IT we used to have common terminology for decades, until a few years ago:

My colleagues with African roots laughed harder than me about this change. :upside_down_face:

Yeah, I recall there was also a thread about the name changing on this forum somewhere.

My son was coding earlier and was telling me he had to create a blacklist on his works website. Guess this doesn’t apply in Scotland

Shame. Needs to be DenyList

…and yet we still have Black Friday. What gives? :joy:

That is because Deny Friday just wouldn’t work

I love it. Just rolls off the tongue …

Now days we have the whole black week of course…
