Seriously, do you understand the word flexibility ? Does RS1 offers video mix ? Does RS1 offers pad fx ? Does RS1 offers color tagging ? Does RS1 offer good quality stems ? Do RS1 has a big screen that helps djs to feel comfortable in certain situations ? Do RS1 allows of all different types of Djs to mix on it easily on any situations without having Engine DJ ??? âŠ. Etc
I love RS1 because itâs flexible and the standalone thing is just top notch and built to last for ever, but Iâm now a Djay Pro hardcore user because I love the interface and the features (UI, laptop app, tablet app, stemsâŠetc)
Iâm talking about the locking / business aspect because Serato used to proceed like this for units with Serato branding on them.
Between business companies they cannot tell explicitly to their customers there are contracts deals and strategies that prevent them to tell the truth, do you remember Pioneer DDJ products which has a SDJ line and a Traktor line then a RKDJ beside because of this exclusivity ?
Serato income revenues mainly come from this business model. If Serato is no longer âexclusiveâ they will simply die financially.

Wouldnât a serato exclusive contract defeat the purpose of the RS1 - the first enginedj Rane equipment which does not rely on Serato? I think the whole Alphateta buys Serato must have shaken up InMusic. If (and thats an if) the RS1 is Serato exclusive that would be facepalm-worthy for sure.

I think some people donât understand what Omnisource is! Serato is included simply because thatâs what was planned for the RS1 when it was released.
Youâre complaining because the RS1 isnât yet compatible with VDJ Pro or DJay Pro, but is that even planned and indicated on the box and in the user manual???

The basics are already in place:
- Standalone product (basic function)
- Bonus features include the ability to use the RS1 as a controller with SDJ Pro thanks to the EDJ OS update, which unlocks access to the RS1âs sound card via Omnisource, allowing it to be connected to X/Y DJ software so it can take control.

Itâs fortunate that Alphatheta didnât acquire SDJ Pro, because they would have tried to secure exclusivity on everything and even blocked a large number of products from accessing updates or compatibility with certain DJ product brands. Thatâs called having a monopoly through unfair competition! Tiny acquired a majority stake in Serato; they are the world leader in DJ software.
Yes, DJay Pro is promised based on the product page:
âThe first RANE product with Engine DJ on board, SYSTEM ONE allows open format DJs to experience the trusted performance of RANE hardware while seamlessly mixing between standalone media, music streaming services, and software sources like Serato DJ Pro (Algoriddim djay support coming in early 2026.)â
Still, IMHO, please donât buy a product until the features you want are actually available. Otherwise, you canât even test out the implementation of the features within your warranty return period.
Currently, DJay Pro is not mentioned in either of the user manuals (versions 4.5.0 and 4.6.0); Serato DJ Pro is only mentioned on page 8 (version 4.6.0). Donât confuse the productâs marketing on DJ or retail websites, which announce future updates, with the fact that it was initially presented in beta. DJay Pro and Virtual DJ will be add-ons that utilize RS1âs Omnisource.

They have the right to announce future fonctionality! Thatâs why there are parentheses (early 2026) regarding DJay Pro. But originally, when it was released, the Rane was a standalone product, including SDJ Pro; this is clearly stated on the box and also on the RS1.
DJay Pro and VDJ had to adapt the compatibility of their software because the RS1 was going to receive an update that would allow it to work with several DJ software programs by making the sound card accessible through Omnisource, and the first software program they partnered with was SDJ Pro. DJay Pro and VDJ Pro will take advantage of this opportunity.
Rane has done his part by making RS1 omnisource, now the bulk of the work is happening on the side of Algoriddim Djay Pro and VDJ. 
I think we are back to the definition of early 2026. Normally this means Q1, but it has room to interpret as 2026 H1. In any case good to see the excitement for announced features, better than having stuff on the roadmap nobody cares about.
As I wrote previously tech companies like apple or samsung announce their production or release dates that way too. First half of the year is written early. Second half is late. Somewhere in between sometimes, and I repeat SOMETIMES - they say mid - which can be interpreted as any 4-6 months in the middle of the year.
Well said. Some people are just too inpatient or canât control their finger when their mouse pointer hovers over the âbuyâ button. There is really no room to complain in regards of the System One, it is a killer standalone device and brings tight Serato integration on top of that, basically from day one. Also I can bet that only a minority will use it with VDJ or DJay Pro anyway.
By comparison, look how long things took for the XDJ-XZ, which even had the Serato label printed on top. Official support arrived eventually - almost half a year later!
And they almost recalled the XZ due to power supply issues, which Iâm pretty sure delayed deployment of features until a patch was available. But, you know Pioneer gets a pass by the DJ community 
Iâm not complaining about anything, I just pointed out the fact Serato used to lock their partnership products that could explain the delay.
I know it for fact because Serato is currently doing that with a future product (but Iâm under NDA so I could not tell moreâŠ)
Iâm telling to hardware manufacturers to stop this kind of contracts not only because Serato is loosing interests, but it does no longer make sense.
Technically if SDJ already supports RS1 thereâs no reason other softwares are so long to support it especially in AI ages.
Serato is the bottleneck of all controllers release, the hardware is ready way sooner than SDJ support.
Itâs the opposite; itâs the players and controllers that limit the software. If the software doesnât have access to the MIDI command codes assigned to each player and access to the sound card in the controllers, it will only work with the included software because it wonât be Omnisource compatible.
Iâve also been an SDJ tester for over 13 years (back then there was Scratchlive and Serato Itch). But I havenât used SDJ Pro for a long time. Each software has its own source code and a specific protocol to work with certain products or brands. I had DJAY Pro, and there really werenât many products that worked with it, whereas VDJ has a huge catalog of compatible products.
Itâs like with DVS: there was Timecode for Traktor and Noisemap for Serato, which use different processes specific to their technologies.
There are also in the world of DMX where there are boxes dedicated to the software, but you can find Omnisource boxes like the Enttec (Open DMX).
