Issues with exporting from Rekordbox 7 on SC Live 4

I just ran into an issue at one of my events. We’re running a Denon SC Live 4 and have always just told DJs to export like normal in Rekordbox and we never had an issue. The DJs got here early to get comfortable with it before the event started. I first popped in my Rekordbox USB and showed them the analyze process and how quick it was, how to browse for songs and playlists, etc.

I had them both put theirs in and they had no playlists on there’s. We put it in their laptop and it showed the playlists on the USB in Rekordbox, so they were exported right.

We checked again on the SC and saw all the playlists were actually showing in the folder list. Ok cool. But it doesn’t display the BPM or anything. I get you can’t see that info in folder view, but even when they long press the song, it doesn’t show it.

The only difference between their USB and my USB is that they both exported using Rekordbox 7 and I exported using Rekordbox 6. Realizing this, I updated to the latest Engine Update, 4.0.1. to see if it compensated for this.

After the update, when they put their USBs in, it reimported everything and I thought all would be well. It wasn’t and we still can’t see playlists or BPM info on their USBs until the song is loaded on a deck.

Obviously Pioneer has changed something with Rekordbox 7 in the way it exports playlists and song info that the Pioneer gear reads without issue, but Denon hasnt been updated to compensate for it.

Is there any work around until Engine catches up besides telling all DJs that for it to work right, they can’t use Rekordbox 7?

I have a funny feeling there won’t be a fix for that. There have been rumours for a while that Alpha are going to lock down their database format so nobody can see it…. I may be completely wrong but if I were you I’d be preparing yourself for telling DJs to download Engine and create themselves an Engine drive for using on this gear.

The future is anything but bright right now.

Just tested here

  • Rekordbox 7.0.3

  • SC6000M

  • HFS rekordbox stick (HFS works with 6000)

I was able to use it without any unknown issues on the 6000

Were the USBs formatted in FAT32?

They are ex-fat. I believe they are both over 32GB.

Thanks for the reply. I read the thread and they did export for Rekordbox like normal, same as I do on mine. I even watched them and it was normal. They also installed 6 and tried an export there, but it didn’t rescan the library, so it’s likely it was using the existing one in Rekordbox 7 format, which I suspect is causing the issue.

Sounds like something they’d do. I hope not, because that would really limit who I’d be able to bring in and open decks off of it would just be a ■■■■ show, so that wouldn’t work. I normally use my XDJ for that stuff, but some events the Denon makes more since, like last night. Unfortunately they had to spend 2.5 hours before their sets trying to get it to work right and eventually resorted to loading every song they might play that night one by one to get analyzed on the decks.

I wanted to give an update. 10/21/24

I tested this out on a few different versions of Rekordbox with a freshly formated USB each time. Here is what I tried and what the results were.

6.7.1 / Device Library / Fat32 = Works 6.8.0 / Device Library Fat32 = Works 6.8.0 / Device Library Plus Fat32 = Doesn’t Work 6.8.0 / Device Library & Device Library Plus Fat32 = Works 6.8.5 / Device Library & Device Library Plus forced Fat32 = Works 7.0.3 / Device Library & Device Library Plus forced Fat32 = Works 7.0.4 / Device Library & Device Library Plus forced Fat32 = Works

All the above with exFAT = works besides 6.8.0 and before if Device Library Plus is the only export option turned on.

I’m not sure what their issue was. They were running 7.0.3 on a Mac. All my testing was done on a PC as I don’t have a Mac. It could be something with the Mac version of Rekordbox, 7.0.3 in particular or maybe something with the Mac in general.

I just wanted to let everyone know that there isn’t an issue with the Denon unless it gets a USB with ONLY Device Library Plus on it.
