Engine Software non-compatible now!

I was trying to create a new topic in the engine DJ software pages, However I am not allowed to do so?? strange but true.

Was going to post my experience with the Desktop software, so here it is.

Well hello, not sure if you can even solve this one! However let me tell you all about it> I have recently updated my SC6000 player Engine OS 4.1, Yes very nice, this then updated the data base on my USB still, All good. Now however I am then prompted to update my computers software also, when I insert the USB key it states, Database is not compatible and please update your engine computer software to the latest version 4.1, ( I am currently running 4.0, on a partitioned drive running Cataline 10.15) Unfortunate however it is the new 4.1 is also not commutable with my MacOS and asks me to update this, SH*T Mow my USB key is not comparable with the engine software, the new engine software is not compatible with my system, So now I am left with a few decisions.

  1. go buy a new Mac as my current, Mid 2012 running 10.15, is not able to update and run the required 12.0 OS
  2. Roll black the Engine OS on my player to 3.4 (as 4.0, was very buggy on the SC prime range, in mt experience.) Hence the new 4.1 update. Rolling back will allow me to export once again my old date base back-up and use the player once again, as right now it is not able to update the music files or data base.
  3. Return the SC6000 Prime I have and exchange it for a more compatible player such as a Pioneer CDJ 2000 NX2 (Second hand, the CDJ3000 is a Joke and well over priced IMO)

SO unless you can somehow allow the use of older (less than 3 moths, version 4.0 with the new 4.1 on the player) I am stuck…

Not sure what you can do, however is a note that now Denon are locking out some of its loyal users due to software limitations…

Thank you and have a great day, Perhaps a conversation for the Rand D department…

Housekeeping: I’ll move the topic. You need to select a sub of the category to create a topic.

So in your opinion, what’s wrong with these release notes:

The only thing I see so far, is that a 12 years old computer isn’t compatible anymore.

Restore a backup from v4 to your usb then downgrade the sc6000’s.

Yup ! Is what Im gonna do, Have a duplicate on an SD card!

Im not disputing the update, Just stating that now the engine DJ software in my 12 year old mac, Which in-fact worked fine with V4.0. And Ok the V4.1 updates the database, Granted. However no need to do such a change that now older MacOS (Im actually running Mojave, Catalina I installed on a separate partition, simply to Run DJ software 4.0!).

Seams a little consumer pushing. Why buy a new Mac? When the one I have works fine! Other than Engine DJ software? I like the fact my system is still able to run 32bit software plugins I have paid for over time. Seams a little short minded to simply push the “12 year old mac” comment.

It removes the amount of operating systems the dev team need to test and support. We all want stability enhancements, quality of life tweaks and new features. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

The same discussion started here:

Nobody is pushing you. Simply stick to Engine 3.4, cause that runs fine, as you said.

Ah ok, no the pop-up stated Mac os 12 was the minimum required. Im running Mac OS. 10.15.

Its a shame there was such a jump in MacOS compatibility, as Engine software 4.0 worked fine.

Im sure I can find a work around, even to the point of firmware downgrade to 3.4 or 4.0. But not sure how stable 4.0 engine OS is?? , I sure its updated for a good reason.

Last alternative would be to put a 1tb SSD with my complete music collection on, analysed with engine software 4.0. To then put it in the SC6000 then update to 4.1, where engine Os will update the library. Then simply work completely standalone, However Inwill miss some tag editing functionality and ratings, alongside simple and easy playlist editing…

nut will see. Just a shame its going to be a hassle

ah thank you by the way,

Look, my main collection is on the SSD in the device. Management is done by rebooting in computer mode and starting EngineDJ on a computer/laptop/nuc. Making backups this way as well.

In your case, I think you can go as far back as a Mac from 2014-2015, but that level will increase as MacOS and Engine versions will progress.

I wouldn’t go for complete standalone management due to speed and ease. For some small tasks it’s fine, but not the larger management stuff.

No problem of course!

A little update that might help others, and not costing an arm or leg.

Granted you may miss a few features of Engine Software 4.1 and even perhaps some Engine OS fixes/functions.

My Solution so far……. For context I use a Macbook pro Mid 2012, Running both Mojave & Catalina and a SC6000,

I first rolled back the Engine OS on the SC600 to 4.0, (This keeps the older style database formats).

I then made a totally new USB 64gb USB drive that I had copied a database to previously. Not quite upto date as the one 4.1 buggered USB sticks database. (You could also use a blank or new USB or drive equivalent).

The I simply used my older 2.2 Engine software to sort out me playlists and sync with the USB I am now using.

Everything works fine! The Engine software perhaps could be updated, (I do have a copy of 4.0, on another partition & catalina). As Engine software 2.2 is the last version to support my 2012 Macbook pro lol :joy:

So as a quick summary.

  1. Use an older compatible Engine Software on your computer.

  2. Downgrad your Engine OS firmware to Iter 3.4 or 4.0 They both seamed stable for me.

Ok yes the main point being if you don’t have a compatable computer to run the latest Engine Software, then stick to your last working copy until you wish to upgrade your computer / laptop…

Thats what I am going to do, ok will miss out on features and updates, this is the price one will pay. However as long as I can use and play my SC6000 as this is my main point. If its not broken and your happy with it, don’t fix or change it…

On a side note Im lucky to be able to use Traktor v3 for my library management and playlists. I thrn only use the engine software to sync between storage and laptop…

On this subject. Funny how my old windows laptop from 2008 with windows 10 Works fine with 4.1 & 4.2!

So the user who started my “Old 2012 mac” should be updated and replaced,?

What the foork Windows works why isn’t Mac supported then? By the way, also someone suggested getting the New mini Mac (500$). Is actually €715 here in holland + gonna need a monitor, keyboard and mouse, to boot….

Overall maxed a 256gb USB stick into the windows laptop……

Hi man, i found a solution that i’m working on to solve the same problem: My Mac is not allowed to install Engine 4.2.

I found that there is a way to upgrade your mac to unsupported MAC OSX versions (so more recent ones than Apple allows you to install on an old machine)

Start your online search with : “OpenCore Patcher”

Ah ok :ok_hand:t3: My solution was to Use an old windows laptop I had sitting in a draw, 2008 HP laptop, running windows 10. I then copied my music library to a 256gb USB (3) stick, and wolla! Worked fine.

Not sure why my 2012 mac is no longer supported, as it is Higher specked than the windows laptop.

But there lays the problem, Mac OSX limit… Not a hardware limitation…

i already installed OpenCorePatcher, and the last working version of EngineOS was 4.0.1 i tried many different settings to spoof different hardware, but without sucess…and after been installed different Mac Os versions, im in Sonoma now…looks more like a hardware limitation…maybe a developer can help removing this at least until 4.2?
