šŸš€ Engine DJ v4.2.0 Now Available - Stems, Recording Normalization, Beatport FLAC + More

Thatā€™s why I donā€™t use Engine library on the PC, everything is done on the SD card or T7 SSD including the stems storage folder.

Nah they absolutely wouldnā€™t pay more for comparable gear from InMusic (outside of Rane mixers perhaps)ā€¦ If InMusic put out the Prime 4 at the price of the XDJ-AZ it would be a disaster. Pioneer sue the ā€˜club standardā€™ mantra to have that exclusivity to charge those prices. The only other space where it can be demanded is the boutique mixer market.

Thats probably why they released the update now. Black Friday = cheap harddrives. :joy:

If Pioneer could run a standalone or CDJ with a toaster chip, be sure they would.

Their strategy is to use the oldest and cheapest chips possible to make the most profit

Case in point, this just appeared in my notifications on Youtube:

"I was going to buy a prime go+, but now I have to pay extra to use the stem function, right?

Iā€™m starting to think that I should go with ALPHATHETA after all.

No matter how good the product is, it all depends on how it is serviced."

Nice to see logic thrown completely out of the window.

Ok so this guy is balking at $10 but is considering going to AT and paying an extra $800 to get something close.

People are going crazy

Wow. Only tried this on one track after the update notification came up but top work, well done and thank you!

I take it thereā€™s no way of previewing them on Engine DJ to see the quality before buying a licence for the hardware?

Thereā€™s a good chance my laptop canā€™t even run it but Iā€™m still going to buy it just to show my support :+1:

Edit: donā€™t make a habit of it though Denon

From the way itā€™s worded on Denonā€™s FAQ page, it doesnā€™t seem like theyā€™re even planning to add it at some point.

ā€œStem playback is only possible on compatible Engine DJ hardwareā€

Hahaha, yeah ill end up getting it i think, although i dont really use it now on Serato or Djay.

I tested this on my Prime 4+ last night on 2 tracks, 1 sounded good and 1 sounded bad, although I think the bad one was due to audio quality of that track in particular. More importantly for me, I recently moved most of my tracks out of my desktop ā€˜Musicā€™ folder and into a Dropbox folder, and sadly Engine didnā€™t let me analyse stems for anything in my Dropbox folder. I donā€™t know why, or whether Denon plan to rectify that. We shall see. Massive potential thoughā€¦

UPDATE : it DOES allow me analyse on tracks that I already syncā€™d to my 2 TB SSD drive fixed inside the Prime 4+, whilst in Computer mode, so that is pretty cool :ok_hand:

Although I did find that if I connected my MacBook directly to the Prime 4+ as a Source whilst in the mix, then it was overwriting (i.e. deleting) the Stems that I had previously analysed directly onto the SSD drive. I was testing if there is a way to simulate real time stems whilst in the mix, by connecting the Mac, but given it just deleted the Stems that I previously analysed then I wonā€™t do that again. Basically you have to plan ahead and pre analyse stems before dropping them into a live mix.

I really canā€™t understand why people are racking their brains over $10 to get a great feature.

After initial tests, the quality of Stems can definitely keep up with Serato and Traktor.

The rendering is much faster than with Traktor, which follows a similar concept. And in times when storage space really doesnā€™t cost the earth, I think the solution is simply great.

This has once again left Pioneer behind, although I suspect that they will soon offer a similar solution

Hereā€™s hoping there are some videos with a demonstration of the quality before the subscription goes live then.

Storage is cheap, some have low budgets AND some (many?) are not tech savvy enough to even think about this stuff.

I mean :poop:, people even complain about losing their libraries because of _____________ reason(s) and donā€™t back their stuff up. I donā€™t get it. Spend hundreds/thousands of dollars on your collection of music and donā€™t even think to keep a copy, when storage is so cheap!!

If $9.99USD is a barrier to entry for some folks, then IDFK what to say to them. Literally, itā€™s the price of a hand full of songs to unlock the potential for more creative options. Itā€™s not like engine has a monthly fee like some of these other library management tools. ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Aaaaaand, many of these complainers will gladly spend $10USD on something that has zero ROI on their career / hobby and something unhealthy.

A lot of people are using Apple laptops with fixed storage.

I spent more than that on a brew and a tuna melt for dinner yesterday. Itā€™s pathetic people are even debating it.

Iā€™ve lost data due to stupidity (30+ years in tech, and is still make dumb-ass mistakes sometimes), or even corruption (bit rot).

That said, when you value something, especially in the digital realm, you should work your :peach: off to protect it.

Even if you buy a used spinning USB 2.0 hard disk as a backup ā€“ itā€™s better than nothing.
