Engine DJ 5 doesn't import rating metadata

Hello,

I don’t know if it’s exclusively related to Engine 5, but it doesn’t seem to read metadata star ratings. If I remember correctly (correct me if I’m wrong), I was able to read the ratings when I worked with Engine 4.

Can someone confirm this, please?

Unfortunately, I can only confirm that the current version does not read the “Rating” tag. To be honest, I don’t know if that was the case in version 4.x.

Maybe someone here on v4.x to tell us if importing “rating” tag worked on those previous versions? If so, I could write a bug report. Thank you.

I was just working on my sc live 4 library and I did test that about importing data and you are have way right. For what I see now it works automatically when you plugging your drive to your computer it does the import. I did some rating, big grit and some active loops.rating and big grit appears on engine dj and engine os.

Thanks for your feedback. You are right that importing ratings from hardware (Engine OS) to software (Engine DJ) works well.

The question is more about importing rated tracks (.mp3) to the software. Engine DJ seems to read all the standard metadata (title, artist, genre, etc.) but not ratings, which is a problem in my opinion. U-w-B already confirmed that the issue occurs in 5.x. Now we want to know if that feature used to worke before (4.x). If I remember correctly, it was the case but we need confirmation from one of the users before writing a bug report.

Importing ratings from Windows ratings has never worked as long as I’ve used Engine OS. I circumvented it by writing a software that lets me write the ratings directly to the main database, towards the goal that I can rate all my music from my phone via a web interface. I’ll be publishing it in a couple days.

It’s not consistent because Engine OS (and Engine DJ, since v5) can write ratings into the file metadata (I can check that via Windows right-click or mp3tag or any other audio software), but cannot read the original rating metadata!

In addition, importing an iTunes library should import ratings as well, as indicated in the Engine DJ manual (p13)

Same thing for importing a Traktor library.

Anyway, I can make an FR for such a basic feature.

Indeed, Engine ratings are not related to metadata. It doesn’t read or write to the .mp3 file itself. That sort of info is only written in the database
