I’ve been working with ENGINE DJ for over a year, I own SC LIVE 4 and SC LIVE 2… I have looked at all the posts I have found on this forum and to this day, the problem of stars and rating has not yet been fixed. I have my music list completely organized, with all the TAGS, but I don’t know why, the STARS, no… appear in ENGINE DJ SOFTWARE. I have already tried several programs, such as Media Monkey, Itunes, MP3 Tag and although in the software everything is correct, in ENGINE DJ, I have the problem that it does not read the STAR rating. Any solution?
No, Engine DJ doesn’t seem to read the star rating by design. It does take over the star rating from imports from for example Traktor.
As a workaround, you could import you library into Traktor (use a demo version for this?), and then import the Traktor library into Engine DJ. From there on you can manage the star ratings for new tags in Engine DJ…
Also programs like Lexicon DJ can provide a solution, but these are not free.
As a side note, Engine DJ doesn’t write ID3 tags either. This isn’t completely bad, as Traktor and iTunes once messed up my ID3 tags badly. That was some 20 years ago, and I still regularly am confronted with the damage from this (20.000 tracks arent easily fixed…). And if you follow that reasoning, there is something to be said about not reating star ratings from tracks either: a star rating is something which you can change over time (a certain track may get less popular over time), and “re-import track metadata from file” would overwrite these evolutions otherwise. Design choices are difficult
I tried importing my library to Itunes, write the rating stars and after read Itunes from Engine DJ Software… is other solution i think! it´s working
This is not always true.
Engine DJ does not write the stars in the “rating” tag (this is true), but Engine DJ writes the MP3/MP4 tags of all the fields that you can edit in the library: Title, artist, genre, year, comment, album, etc, etc. When you make a change to the track using Engine DJ Desktop, the change will also be made in your MP3 or MP4 file.
I don’t know how it works with other file types (flac, etc) since I don’t use them.
