I’m experiencing several issues with the latest version of the software.
The most critical one is that when I plug a USB drive into my Mac to export my tracks, I have to wait between 15 and 20 minutes before the Sync Manager becomes responsive and I can actually do anything.
I’ve been using Engine since 2018 and my library is around 85 GB.
I also tried using the same database on a Windows PC — Engine’s startup time in that case was 3 minutes and 45 seconds, and working with a USB drive was equally frustrating due to the same long wait before being able to operate.
What could be causing all of this?
On top of that, I played at a birthday party recently. I had brought a 2-channel mixer and a single SC5000, using the double layer feature to play 2 decks from one unit. After about 45 minutes, the software started to slow down significantly, issues began to appear, the screens became unresponsive, and it was impossible to search for tracks. I had to reboot.
I’m genuinely worried about the state of my library — does anyone have any advice or has experienced something similar?
Not just that, I get it locked up with this when I want to Export to my denon P4+ all the time; Takes EngineDJ ages to discover there is way more than enough storage on my internal storage!
I wonder if it’s doing what previous major upgrades have had to do.
The first time (and one time only) when a new version of the engine DJ software has seen an old version of engine music database on a drive, it’s had to run a conversion task in the background - just the once, but could take hours if you’re hauling a large library / database
It could be that with the upgrade from engine 4 to engine 5 - just a once per drive task maybe
No, it has done this ever since I have my P4+ and its internal 2TB SSD. It takes about 10 minutes before it realizes there’s more than enough free storage space, but it then never removes that warning and I can start the export anyway. It’s really very annoying.
I really don’t understand how these developers can deliver such crappy coding bugs in this day and age. Just drop the entire code-tree into Claude Sonnet or Qwen Max and let it find these bugs. I would be able to solve this within a day.

Dedication towards this goal (I’m age 60, my motivation is not to make more money or invent a new brand of controllers, I can write good code/firmware for existing hardware though)

Time. Most of my time is spent on USING a controller and several other passions and hobbies, and a social life.

This is just that wonderful online phrase of “it should be easy to do!” Or “how hard can it be to… “ with a little twist into your suggesting that we just let AI resolve it all lol.
