Engine desktop 4.5 has been released for rane one only, I wonder if this means that playlists produced for rane one will not be usable for the prime series?
Hi mau ![]()
this is from the manual available on the Rane website:
IMPORTANT: The Engine DJ v4.5.0 release is exclusive to RANE SYSTEM ONE users only. Users with other Denon DJ or Numark products using EngineOS should remain on the previous version of Engine DJ software.
This Engine DJ software update also contains a change to library management that is not fully backward compatible with EngineOS v4.3.4 and older. In certain conditions, it is possible that track artwork will not be presented on your EngineOS device or Engine DJ desktop application.
So it seems, that they are not compatible ⌠not yet âŚ
Source:
Yes indeed they have compatibility issues, I think this move is a big mistake, it leads to the belief that the entire Denon Prime range is suddenly obsolete
No, I do not think so. In the end there will be one version for the entire Engine DJ ecosystem, because it is likely that many users will want to export their playlists to the Rane System One and the other players as well. Nothing is obsolete here. ![]()
I think you are right, but it would be better if Denon confirmed this, to protect his old, but above all his future customers.
Communication and marketing is not their strong point. Just wait to see what happens. Your device still works.
I bet they dont make the full Prime series obsolete just because of one player, and just are doing some finishing touches on the Engine OS for other players using the same eco-system as this new Rane.
If it will be 4.5, 4.6 or 5.0, I dont mind⌠mine SC6000 setup is still rock-solid. ![]()
I think Desktop 4.5 is really to make moving playlists over on Rane to work out of the box. Especially because the Rane system is most likely truly running 5.0âŚwhich might not be other denon/numark ready yet
Regarding the Engine Desktop 4.5.0 version mismatch for Rane and âlegacyâ units, @Reese posted a note over on the New Gear for 2026 thread.
Itâs awful of Denon to prioritize updates for external hardware over those that come with Denon hardware. A disgrace to company policy.
It might be, that other branch of inMusic was working alongside on Rane unit, while Denon and Engine updates for current hardware is still being worked on. Development of such product takes 2 to 3 years usually. So Denon programmers did deliver updates during the time of development of the Rane system one.
First, this is not a Denon, but an Engine DJ forum. So we are not talking about âexternal hardwareâ to clarify that. Leaving aside, we can cheerish that Rane joined Denon and Numark, which will make the whole ecosystem even stronger in the longer term. AT might have their dominance in the large venue area, but inMusic can cover the rest with budget (Numark), performance (Rane) and allrounder/mobile (Denon) devices, which is the exact right thing to do.
And second, looking back at all the updates you and we already got over the past years, including many new features, all for free, really makes your âdisgraceâ wording look awful.
For the rest: What NoiseRiser said.
Wonder if weâll get some more little quality of life features in any of these new updates, or just maybe tweak the oneâs weâve already got.
Dynamic beat grid analysis with the ability to set the 1st beat would be nice, stability would need to be sorted first as I canât analyse more than 50 tracks at a time as the software crashes.
Donât seem to have this issue in rekordbox, although I donât own any rekordbox devices I do use the software to sort out tracks ready to take a usb around friends houses & I can leave it all night & itâll be done when I wake up.
Maybe weâll get the ability to rate our tracks on our devices instead of relying on the desktop software, or you guys might get some of the other requests for basic stuff that youâve been asking for like more zoom on your waveforms.
I personally didnât care for bluetooth, personally donât care for rgb waveforms either I think it looks cleaner the way it is now but the option is nice.
Waiting more information about Denon DJ, I suppose they will merge Engine DJ version into only one sooner ? I have an SC LIVE4 and I am looking at this new Rane system one so for now I suppose I cannot handle both version of the software on the same PC
Just updated my Prime Go+ this morning and had exactly the same thought. I already have another dedicated PC to update my MCX8000 units as they are stuck on Engine 1.6.1 and you canât have more than one Engine install on a PC even with separate user accounts.
Remember, the new Rane device uses new hardware under the hood which is more powerful than whatâs in the Denon and Numark devices. As such, the firmware versions may very well never sync between the 2 systems. I also canât see Inmusic developing separate firmware for 2 systems going forward.
Currently each controller has different hardware and features and requires individual firmware. Nothing has changed.
Theyâre doing that very thing for the MPC range. Same firmware version, but split into downloads for Gen 1 devices and Gen 2 devices.
Engine OS makes sense but my point was about Engine Desktop
Well they either leave previous devices behind or they donât. Nobody knows right now.
I suspect they were forced in to releasing the system one at NAMM without everything else being quite ready,
