Engine 4.3.2đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïžđŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Hear! Hear!

Some people are getting so unbelievably selfish - they’re expecting dozens of new zero-charge features every few weeks, and oh my word
if those features which do get added are features which (heaven forbid) OTHER users wanted, not what those “some people” wanted
then it’s out with all the usual crybaby tears and tantrums

Note to InMusic : Freeze the introduction of new freebie features, and make an announcement that for the next 12/24 months you’ll be focusing on omproving what’s already there
. No faffing about with waveform stacks or colours.

You see Denon (Vol:10) You Recognize company he was killed by his self.

But your criticisms aren’t valid in this respect.

Let’s break it down. You claim they aren’t working on things because you have a self imposed timeframe that you feel has lapsed and now means the company are failing, all because you think they should be following your personal timeframe. This timeframe has proven to be largely unrealistic when compared to previous builds.

You also claim it’s been a long time since a previous release of any content.

There was a major release in March of this year, roughly 3 months ago, Apple Music.

The previous one was November and introduced stems across the range.

Both meaning the current schedule is not currently being eaten into for a new release.

We also know new hardware is on the way after an interview between Mojaxx and an InMusic employee. It was stated as ‘in the summer’, summer is 17 days old at present. Hardware always accompanies new firmware, it’s impossible not to as they firmware needs to have the new hardware factored in. This would also explain why it’s possibly not been made public, as it would leak potential new hardware info in the build.

The trouble with you is, you operate on emotions, whereas I operate based purely on facts and what I can see with my eyes. You then proceed to roll out the boring old fanboy trope because you can’t handle the fact I operate based only on facts, so it’s easier to deflect and start shouting nonsense about fanboyism.

As for the legal documents, I didn’t have to search anywhere for them, every single piece of documentation that has ever accompanied a product from cars to washing up liquid contains the same links to the same legal documents at the end of its instructions. It’s almost as if there is a legal standard for companies to follow or something

There is so much more that could be said about this, but I’ll leave it with my original statement. Some people should know better.

Dear Stu, i read you all these years and i really try to understand you and some other guys here that always mention that updates are for free and this is a major miracle for us. Are you talking serious? With such expensive devices we should pay for updates? Updates are good for us and then for Inmusic as we advertise the benefits of what devices can offer.

My 2 cents.

STU, man, I can only imagine how annoying it must be to discuss a relationship with you, I can also imagine how your behavior must be within your company with your coworkers and I think even more about how your relationship with your boss must be, absolutely no one wins, absolutely no one will ever be right, only the excellent Mr. STU, owner of all the truths,:rofl::rofl::rofl:, anyway, to end our barbs (with victory for the MAGNÍTICO STU of course!) I will try to make you at least understand, come on, since I bought my P4, NEVER, NEVER has this software been 100% stable, it never has been my friend, I recognize all the efforts of the entire team, I am grateful for the incredible resources, but
stability and everything working as it should, NEVER! Saying that I asked for new features you are lying, read here in all my comments and counterpoints, in none of them did I ask for “new features”, it all started with your usual arrogance in thinking you own the forum, responding to a dissatisfied user as if you were the owner or the owner’s spokesperson, I’m sorry to tell you my friend, you are not the owner here, we are all here to GIVE OPINIONS, good and bad, I completely agree with part of what PAXÁ wrote, I am not in desperate search of new features, I am desperately waiting for “STABILITY” and also “FUNCTIONALITY”, there is no point in having 200 new features if they do not work as they should, anyway my friend, I am not here to create enemies, I just want to tell you that it is very ANNOYING that you always respond to users here as if you OWN the community, as if everything was working wonderfully well. Note: I think FANBOYSMO is what you have been practicing here for a long time, I use Denon and if necessary, I will make my criticisms, unlike you who is literally a FANBOY ENGINE :wink::wink:. Big Hug

They’re hardly expensive and their value increases with every update.

It’s quite insightful reading what some of the social media Denon DJ / Engine groups are saying about some (thankfully only a minority) of the users on this forum.

They’re saying that Any free firmware features which get added, which “Bob” didn’t vote for, Bob starts slagging off Denon for not listening not caring, never releasing anything that users want - when in fact “Bob” is just selfishly saying the features which got added were not the features HE wanted, not a feature HE asked for, not a feature which HE could use in his performances, not something HE suggested, not something HE voted for. A real “stuff everyone else’s wants and requirements - in the only user in the world - gimme my stuff now, let me queue-jump”

And that’s just “Bob” - on social media next up is “Antonio” who slags of the last 10 updates with the same mistaken, biased, selfish, warped observation
threatening to sell up, buy the other brand (which cost twice as much and does half as much, and gets little more than big fixes via firmware, rather than any actual new features or enhancements.

Antonio is joined by Klaus who gives the developers a week to sort it all as he cannot DJ on the gear he’s been DJing on for the last 7 years unless his feature request appears.

Updates of any kind arent a right. There’s nothing inside or outside the box that says “updates with brand new features, every 90 days for the rest of your life” nor any small print under that saying “oh and don’t respect or worry about what anyone else wants, we’ll only add your features”

You’ve already got what you bought and even that was excellent value.

Just because your mates car arrived with 16 speakers in it, and your car only has 10 speakers, doesn’t mean that your car supplier should be, or has to, fit 6 (or 8
no no wait gimme 10 more! 12 more! ) speakers to yours.

Don’t disagree with this, nobody here is claiming they should cost money, but what we shouldn’t also do is become expectant where people start ranting about switching brands because it’s 3 months and 2 weeks since the last release.

Guess what, switch brands and you’ll soon find out what waiting for a firmware update feels like. And how much those new features cost to implement (by way of new hardware).

The point here is making claims that aren’t backed up by the reality.

27.5yrs working for the company, used to be a team of 3, 2 of us were made redundant so now it’s a team of one, which is me. I work in system support so I’m essentially manning a functional mailbox where I receive issues that I have to diagnose, assess then work out how to resolve, or who to engage to resolve.

I’ll leave you to work out what my relationships with people are like.

Also, being right no matter what is the absolute opposite of what I am. I simply read things, collect facts, get the lay of the land, form opinions, avoid jumping to conclusions. This may upset people who deviate from that path, but I find it avoids the nonsense by and large.

The trouble with the internet, everyone is free to say what they like without any fear of consequences, so it leads to lots of things being said that fall outside the realms of truth.

P.S. I’ve been using 4.0.0 up until recently because guess what, I had issues on the new firmware and didn’t want to risk it at gigs, I also made my views on this known.

Is that the behaviour of a fanboy?

Okay, okay, you’re right, do you feel better now? I hope you understood my “ONLY” point, let people speak, it’s not just your opinion that matters here, we are Denon/Engine consumers just like you, I’m sure that these two brands want to hear “ALL” of their customers, and you, as a good researcher, reader and holder of important information, could play your very important role and help people within the community, just like you did with me, but never try to stop them from speaking, criticizing and suggesting things, sometimes, it sounds a bit arrogant if you know what I mean, after all, this environment exists exclusively for that.

There is a book called “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, which I think should be included in the terms & conditions when signing up to this forum.

It’s a children’s book but I feel like it would fit perfectly.

Without judging, isn’t this what you both already do?

Didn’t care to step in, because it’s a forum. And yes, arguments are part of this; facts and/or emotions.

You both help to grow the products, but you both know stuff takes time. Lots of time.

On the other hand, the brand product managers are balancing between new shiny features and basic stability. That will always be an issue in developing products.

It’s probably true that many things can, and would benefit from, improvement in the database and Desktop Engine. We all agree on that.

However, there are many points to consider. You mention slowdowns and lags in the OS, mainly when searching and displaying playlists.

  • Keep in mind that display speed in these circumstances depends greatly on your storage media, whether SSD, SD card, or USB drive.

In each of these product categories, not all are equal. Some SSDs are slower than others; some have DRAM cache memory, others don’t. And regarding SD cards or USB drives, it’s exactly the same thing; read speeds vary greatly depending on the model.

  • Also keep in mind that the size of your collection, and therefore your database, also has an impact. The larger it is, the more likely you are to experience slowdowns. The same goes for your playlists: the more tracks they contain, the more likely you are to experience slowdowns.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying what you’re seeing isn’t legitimate. But before blaming the software, although it could be improved, ask yourself if you’re using the most suitable and efficient storage media. Also, ask yourself if your playlists don’t contain an excessive number of tracks. It’s better to have 10 playlists of around 100 tracks each, rather than a single playlist containing 1,000 tracks.

Also, you say that Engine Desktop is a disaster, but nothing’s stopping you from using Rekordbox to prepare your playlists and manage your collection. It’ll work perfectly (except for the stems, of course).

If you think the interface is slow, you’ve probably never used Pioneer hardware, because I can assure you that the Pioneer interface is slow as hell compared to Engine OS (plus the fact that they never add any major new features in their updates, which usually amount to simple fixes).

You probably have legitimate reasons to complain about Engine OS or your Denon gear, but if you were with the competition, I can assure you that you’d have even more reason to complain, considering everything you get over time here that you’d never get there.

There’s no guarantee that the next generation of hardware will use the same hardware architecture as the current generation for which Engine OS was designed.

I mean, until now, all devices running Engine OS are based on the same platform, with the same RK3288 processor, which, as you know, is beyond dated. And Engine OS was designed for this processor.

It would be surprising, not to say shocking, if the next generation of devices still used this processor, or even a more recent Rockchip processor. Because even the most recent Rockchip processors are a thousand times less capable of performing computationally intensive tasks, such as on-the-fly STEM management or the sort of things one might expect from a new generation of devices.

So it’s not impossible that Engine OS developed for future devices will be completely different from the current Engine OS. Much like the Xbox 360’s OS was completely different from the Xbox One’s OS. There’s no guarantee that when the new generation of hardware is released, the current development team will continue to support and update the version of Engine OS adapted to our current equipment.

Ideally, the team would be able to maintain a single OS capable of managing two completely different hardware architectures in a combined manner. But honestly, I don’t believe that for a moment. It would be too much work for the development team to have to continue and manage the development of two platforms at the same time, the old and the new.

It’s a safe bet that when the new generation is released, with a new hardware platform, the current generation will be abandoned and moved to “legacy products,” and updates will cease, as was the case for the MCX8000 when the Prime line arrived.

Can’t disagree with anything you said, and I think those of us on older devices would be foolish not to prepare ourselves for a time when our gear stops getting updated, these things aren’t perpetual.

I do however think that there’s a bit of life in them yet regarding updates so we will get a couple more perhaps.

But yes, it shouldn’t come as a shock when the day arrives to upgrade to get new stuff.

Thanks for the message and the clarifications, that’s really healthy here, let’s go, in relation to the media I use, today I’m already on my third attempt, first I bought a 1tb SSD from Kingston, then I bought another 1tb CRUCIAL BX500 SSD, last week I bought my 3rd one in the USA. SSD, this time a Samsung EVO 870 of 2TB, the most used media was the crucial bx500 that changed behavior according to the software versions, that is, in certain versions, almost everything flowed wonderfully well, I know that the media directly influences the performance, but I definitely cannot attribute the reason for so much slowness to the SSDs, because as I reported, in certain versions of the engine with the same SSD everything behaved well, in relation to my library, yes, it is very large, however, I will never create a playlist with 200, 300, 400, 1000 songs, that would be meaningless, I have done all these analyses many times to try to correct this slowness, but today I am sure that these are not the problems that cause slowness.

@FREDERICO_ELIAS

The 870 EVO is probably one of the best SATA III SSDs you could get in terms of raw performance, according to the SSD TESTER website. You can sort by score to see the best.

It has a DRAM cache, unlike the BX500, which doesn’t. So, theoretically, you should get the best performance with the 870 EVO.

Well, I’ve used it in two events since installation, honestly, I didn’t notice any difference (using version 4.3.1).

@FREDERICO_ELIAS

Have you performed a “clean database” from the Engine Desktop application settings?

This can notably help improve speed by removing unnecessary index entries, which in turn reduces the size of your database.
