Disable buttons for MIDI?

I want to use some of the effects buttons for MIDI. I’m using external mixing mode. Is there a way to disable the native functions a button so u can use it with MIDI only?

Might be helpful to us to share what device you’re talking about.

Probably unlikely though.

The whole point of external mixing mode on DJ software is to use the mixer as it is rather than map anything on it for MIDI. I’m not even sure if the X18xx mixers allow you to use them for internal mode while using the mixer’s on-board audio interface. You may need to use an external audio interface in order to map the mixer for MIDI, assuming it’s possible for it to even be mapped for MIDI. I’m pretty sure the X1700 has a headphone / master audio interface mode and MIDI capability. IMO, using a mixer as sophisticated as these for internal mode on DJ software is kinda goofy, though.

Yeah, the X1700 can switch to midi mode but even when I used traktor, I never used the app mixer/midi mode. The actual mixer sounds way too good.

You can use any of the mixers option to be running together with a computer. So sound from any decks and turntables, can be running thru the mixer, mixers fx can be used and usb sound card on another channel as well. All at the same time.

For midi control - mixer sends our midi data constantly, but there is no function disable option (like it was on x1700 - change channel to midi control).

X600 and X1600 did had in the utility menu the option for external/internal mixing mode that enabled use of all knobs and buttons (except gain) as a controller.

Very niche way of using a standalone mixer though.

I used to map some stuff on my DJM-800 to midi in Serato using one of those old skool midi cables… i have to admit that i rarely used it though, a dedicated midi controller like the old Denon device and the DDJ-SP1 was far more suitable.

Yes it also seems like the 1600 could get MIDI input from DVS for tempo as well. Wonder why they removed the functionality for the 1800 1850?

X1850, sorry bout that

I do use external mode. I mostly just want to replace the beat break grid dependent effect to traktors internal beat masher.

No soundcard in 800.

Do you need a soundcard for midi signals?

DJM800 can provide midi over DIN 5 output. It is located just under digital ins on the right side of the mixer (if you look from the back - connector side). That was back in the days for providing midi clock to EFX1000 and to use as midi control with any other midi capable gear. Under the display just next to TAP button for FX you have a dedicated button for midi clock start/stop.

To clarify - both mixers can receive BPM info from software via HID (Virtual DJ and Serato) but regular midi bpm does not work.

The educated guess was they did not bother with generic midi since Serato integration via HID was planned from beginning, Virtual DJ just went in the same slot.

Poor Traktor users were left behind since NI never added Denon hardware on the “supported via HID” list (for various NI/inMusic reasons).

But non of the softwares have X1800/1850 in any HID mode or so. They just support the sound card as usual. The difference only is with serato, that is getting the unlock when user has the club kit.

Serato does and it seems VDJ also.

Thanks for the clarification…

Didn’t realize traktor (the one I use…) was the odd one out.

Do you have any more info on why this never happened? Disagreement between companies?

I think the feature request page is gone from their forums since the release of TP4. Would be nice to at least bring a bit more exposure to the issue

So how the HID mode appears on the MIXER?

HID is just the type of protocol for exchanging the data, including the BPM.

Then also the mixer should appear in the device manager as hid device… but it doesn’t
