Disable buttons for MIDI?

True true…maybe because it’s only receiving?

Then it should also show up as HID device. Otherwise it shows only as a sound card and midi device - then there is no hid, and is receiving only midi.

You need a sound card somewhere.

Yep, it was called a Rane SL3, replaced by a Reloop Flux.

I’ve only had one mixer with a soundcard built in, a Xone 43c, it was rubbish.

Having a mixer with an integrated sound card changes your life. I remember a time when I had to connect my NI audio 10 with tons of RCA cables every time I moved my equipment when I was using mixers that didn’t have an integrated card. So much time wasted on wiring.

Nowadays, with the integrated sound card, you can connect your turntables directly to your mixer and switch to DVS mode (even if the Phase HID mode has simplified things even more on this point) and get the audio stream directly through the USB for recording in software like Audacity or for streaming in software like OBS.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to a mixer that requires an external sound card.

Yes, but as far as Rotary mixers go, the only one on the market with a Soundcard installed is nearly £4000.

This is before you address all the politics around which mixers work with which software, which dont, why they dont etc etc. Take a look at the compatibility of Pioneers DJ mixers to get a full picture of the utter mess that is compatibility, I have none of that with my Flux, and It only requires 3 RCA leads between mixer and card.

Edit: there’s a reason Chris Mojaxx carries a Flux around with him

Yes, I agree about the rotary mixers, there’s clearly a shortfall in this market segment.

Didn’t the Rane MP2015 have an integrated sound card?

Well, I’m exaggerating a bit when I say a ton of RCA cables, but even 3 RCA cables are still too much once you get used to doing without them altogether.

My next mixer purchase will have an integrated card, im planning on a battle mixer for gigs, but on the whole it annoys the life out of me that they all seem to be locked down to a single, or sometimes 2 pieces of software. Often Pioneer mixers don’t even support their own software :person_shrugging:t3:

  • DJM-450 RB only
  • DJM-750 mk2 RB only (with paid sub)
  • Reloop RMX-95 Djay Pro only (despite the RMX-90 being Serato)

The Rane Rotary did have a sound card, and worked with Serato but is long gone.

It would be necessary to check but I am not sure that most mixers are “locked”.

Some of them integrate and unlock the license of certain software (serato, rekordbox …) but that does not prevent you from using the integrated sound card in other software.

For example, you can perfectly use the sound card of most mixers designed for serato or rekordbox with traktor or Virtual DJ. However, some software such as Serato requires that the integrated sound card be certified to work.

In this case, the problem is on the side of the software which decides not to open its ecosystem more than the hardware.

Traktor for a time also required a so-called “certified” audio interface whether external or integrated into the mixer. Then they decided to abandon the certification and open the compatibility to any asio compatible sound card.
