Denon Prime GO 2 (Suggestions)

I have been looking at the Denon Prime Go as portable DJ solution when I am playing in small bars, but one thing is putting me of from purchasing it is the layout of the EQ and also its around 4yrs old. I may wait to see if a newer version is released.

Its probably not a problem the way the EQ is laid out, but for me I prefer a vertical EQ layout.

I would love to see this added, and maybe:

  • Internal SSD
  • Mono Split Cue Switch on the H/P
  • Headphones Cue, Level, and Aux Pots on Top
  • Shift and Cue command to go back to the start of the track.
  • Move the Hot Cue and Loop, … buttons up, this will allow for a Longer Pitch Fader.
  • Better Meters
  • Foldable Legs to raise the back of the unit
  • * Mono Switch on the Master

I have add a picture as demonstration, probably not possible to make but anyway I live in hope :grinning:,

What, no spinning platters? :stuck_out_tongue:

if Denon combined two K2 in one case, threw out the jog wheels as unnecessary and all this would work under the control of the engine i.e. the ability to play in 4 channels with the same size as the current version of Prime Go, I would be very happy … but that would be a completely different device

The layout of the EQ and placement of the headphones cue-knobs were also a big concern for me prior to getting the device, but to be honest it hasn’t been a problem at all. I’ve played some pretty decent spots with the Go, and it’s been super smooth.

Pitch fader could be slightly better though, and would be my top priority for a new version.

But for a MK2 I do think some of your placement suggestions would make sense indeed

I think an internal SSD will probably take up too much space. I personally just have a 32GB SD card inserted at all times, and then you can always switch a few USB sticks as well.

Overall, it’s definitely a more powerful machine than the looks gives it credit for

This switch is already on the back of the Prime Go.

The horizontal EQ pots are something that never bothered me but I thought it would at first.

:grinning: Yes that would be a completely different device, the jog wheels are there I guess to attract the scratch artists.

My previous setup was a A&H K2 and the A&H DB2 running traktor for 7yrs, a lovely setup, but recently the mixer kept turning off after 20mins for no reason, I thinks its the power supply, but A&H want ÂŁ300 for a new one :unamused: . I think Denon is my next purchase.

Thanks Kris, your probably right a SDD would probably take up to much space. I have used other gear with a small pitch fader, I find there not that practical, unless you go to the lowest pitch range.

The nightclub looks good, I see use shure in ear monitors, does Engine DJ have Mono Split Cue inside the software?

For me, the most confusing thing is that the CUE button is placed to the left of the PLAY/PAUSE button! I don’t understand this positioning ???

I would have liked to see the addition of a Bass/Treble rotary button for microphones 1 and 2.

For the internal SSD yes and no. I would prefer to have a battery with a higher capacity (6 hours minimum), the battery that is in the PGO does not exceed 3h30.

I would have liked jogwheels a little bigger (2cm more) and less flexible.

I would also have that there is more space around the jogwheels (Unfortunately this small standalone will be more cumbersome), why more space around the jogwheels… Because I sometimes accidentally touch the jog when I move the pitch position, or when I use the pads.

For the rest… It’s correct and even if I’m really not a fan of the pads, I find them stiff and not as responsive as the P4 and 4+ that I own!

Why? Because it’s not the same as Pioneer? FYI there have been plenty of products in the past with the transport buttons horizontal.

Where else do you suggest they put it, without altering the size of the device?

I’m talking about reversing the “CUE” button which is on the left with the “Play/Pause” button and therefore the “CUE” button will be on the right!

When I want to start a music I mistakenly press the “CUE” button instead of “Play/Pause”.

It’s somewhat confusing, and not just for me.

Sorry, I must not have made myself understood correctly, I want the play button to be on the left, after that whether it’s placed horizontally or vertically it doesn’t bother me.

I can understand why the buttons are placed the way they are, your basically working from left to right, you first cue the track and then hit play, the arrows on the play button is pointing right in the same direction as turning the jogwheel when scrolling forward and playing, keeping the same feeling and direction to the right.

I think the layout of the PGO is already quite on point. The horizontal knobs for the EQ are really easy to get used to after 1-2 gigs with them.

I’d ask for these things in a mk2 version:

  • DMX output for Engine Lightning
  • 2 USB inputs (only 1 can be tricky sometimes unless you use a SD card as well)
  • USB C for charger
  • Microphone(s) EQ
  • Better / More precise VU Meters

Been using this small machine for 4 years almost every weekend and it’s the best purchase I ever made. If they add some of the features I mention it’d be such a banger in my opinion.

This needs to be on every single DJ product moving forward, especially DJ mixers with a sound card. The DJM-S5 has it going in th right direction.

The Reloop Flux has opened my eyes to single cable laptop/tablet connection with data and charging. Im holding off buying a mixer until I find one with this and hardware FX. The Reloop RMX 95 is almost perfect.

As far as the Prime go stands, more room for pitch faders would be nice, and on screen VU meters for the channels (part of the GUI) too. Outside of that some better button customisation too and possibly FX paddles.

Still, this is one of the negative feedbacks from potential customers in France, some do not want to buy it because of this. They preferred to wait and now they have turned to the MixStream Pro GO. This is the feedback from my friends from the Sound & Light shop where I used to work, who told me about it.

How many potential ?

Well I don’t think I’ve ever seen any DJ kit with the cue button on the right. If you know of anything, please post a picture.

Since the beginning of 2020, more than 200/300 customers, whether beginners (bedroom), semi-pro or pro, some of these customers came to check if an equivalent product was going to be marketed, it took 3 years to see the Mixstream Pro Go, there were people who bought the MixStream Pro and Pro+ and they connected it to Ecoflow or Bluetti power stations. Now, there are some who are heading towards AlphaTheta with the Omni Duo.

Positioning makes sense, if you compare top to bottom with left to right? I’ve played quite a few hours in the unit by now, and have never mistaken the two. I think the unit is pretty intuitive once you actually get your hands on it
