Auto cue point generation with ability to specify cue points (and learning ability similar to Rekordbox 7 or Mixed in Key)
Example
Cue 1 @ 1 beat, Cue 2 @ 17 bar, Cue 3 @ 33 bar, Cue 4 @ 41 etc
Get the ability to specify Cue point color
Cue 1 Red, Cue 2 green etc and make this standard (part of profile) so when we go back to cue a new track the colours don’t need to be changed.
Set a default beat jump instead of changing it at the start of every session
(Command + right arrow) jumps 8 bars or 4 bars etc
Add a “shift lock” so Command is not needed to jump through a track (CMD+arrow)……faster cue point with less button presses.
Add ability to manually specify import date……so if we use software like Platinum Notes it doesn’t mess up the track info and we can manually organize the collection.
Add an energy column similar to the rating column with 5 dots designating track entry…1 lowest to 5 highest.
Wondered when the first ‘but Rekordbox 7 does it’ request would come in, what with the paint being barely dry on their release.
You can colour and name cue points and have been able to for several of the previous firmware versions.
You can set a beat jump value in your profile settings, then use your profile to save all this info between sessions.
As far as the rest goes, you’ve asked for around 10 different feature requests in a single ‘non feature request’ type post. They need to be on individual feature request posts, but you’ll probably find a lot of them already exist, so go and vote on them in that part of the forum.
I mentioned Mixed In Key as well for those offended by Pioneer offerings, this goes beyond either platform and allows you to specify a particular base set of points. The ability to change cue color wasn’t the request…it is to preset a certain color that and not have to change “cue 7” for example every time you set cue point 7.
The beat jump value can not be “pre-set” in Engine DJ desktop as far as I understand…
As far as some of the other request, I have voted for or specifically requested some of them previously.
I don’t know if you watched Mojaxx review? He was very underwhelmed by the feature, instead saying it’s just easier to set them yourself rather than having to go through deleting them when it hasn’t worked.
Also not sure what the idea behind having it tagged to certain bars in every song would be? All tracks are different so wouldn’t it just be sticking them in random places on each different track?
I have tried it myself and feel the same about Rekordbox 7 auto Cue…it is better than Mixed in Key I must admit. For me personally, having the ability to specify the 4 points 1, 17, 33, 49 would save a significant amount of time if they could be auto generated.
Not sure I understand why it wouldn’t be cohesive… Engine Dj already (in the waveform) marks beat 1 of Bar 17 and so on…so as long as the the analysis is done correctly, which Engine is pretty solid with…best of all the software in my testing ; it would just be a matter of adding a cue point in that place holder.
I’m asking what practical use there is to having cue points marked at set distances across all music? Given that all music is structured differently. Bar 17 on one track might be halfway through a breakdown, or half way through a verse of lyrics or a piano riff etc etc… I don’t really see the point of it pre setting them.
Everyone following the same pattern leads to boring repetitive song structures & sounds. I get loads of tracks from record pools that hit their first breakdown in the second phrase. Annoys the crap out of me when people just do the same stuff over and over and over again.
That aside:DJ software should not assume song structure. Plenty of people will get upset when it gets it wrong — like when it doesn’t do auto beat grid properly sometimes.
It blows my multi genre loving mind to think of music being so rigid.
In fact it would blow my house music mind if I thought that did it too, every blend would be the same set of actions to complete. I can feel the AI bot peering over my shoulder at the thought of it.
Lead in kick to hi hat to sub bass ect have a standard 8bar interval until the track makes its unique aspects apparent…
The beauty of specifying where you want the software to drop cue points is… you cant be upset at the software for doing what you specified it to do.
This is exactly what I mentioned before. These repetitive patterns are literally what I was just sayin .
And no. House Music is not ALL the same. It’s what you are getting, where you are getting it and who you are getting it from.
No offense, but I would love to invite you to Open your mind and broaden your horizons. There are loads of different tracks that have different sequences for phrasing. All in the same umbrella genre.
But what has a lead in and a lead out? If all you’re doing is buying music that follows that pattern, you seriously need to start broadening your searches.
Purple Disco Machine, Joey Negro, Masters at Work, Angelo Ferrari, Tojami Sessions, Fred Everything, LTJ Xperience, Ron Basejam, Disclosure, Audiojack…. Off the top of my head all artist who don’t follow a standard pattern of production.
