When I heard about engine stem support, I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of SC6000s and an X1850 (upgraded from Live 4) Ultimately I decided on the controllers over the rane performer specifically because I would now also be able to use stems with them.
Every Time I try to add stem support to start analyzing stems in Engine DJ, I get a network error (Error Code: 6). My wifi connection is great, 600mb down 0 interruptions in any other program but Engine just refuses to download the stem support.
Why is this even a thing at all, why on earth would stem support not just be included with the latest version of Engine, why do you have to download the stem support separately? To save select users fractions of fractions of hard drive space?
Regardless, was curious is anyone else has this issue, or has a fix.
In Engine DJ…on what system? Are you running Mac or PC? What’s your OS?
A quick Google shows: Error Codes - 6 (Your Request to Access the Server Was Denied). This error happens when you’ve requested to connect to a computer but the request wasn’t accepted.
Windows 11, it is a network error however my internet is completely fine, nothing else having issues. Speed test results come up normal (600mb/down 20 or lower ping)
Perhaps because not all users have the ability to use stems on there devices, so they didn’t want to make it a built in feature as only a small amount of users have the Ptime 4+, Im guessing they will update the Engine DJ software with this feature built in once available for all users
As not to cause any confusion, as you might be misled if its a pre available function.
I’m fairly sure all the standalone devices (with exception of unsupported MCX series) will eventually be getting stem support. Even if they don’t it doesn’t really make sense to not include it in the desktop version. Not all computers can handle live stem analyzing but its not like Serato/VDJ keep it separate in those applications.
You need to differentiate the Engine software from the stem engine (or stem algorithm) which is developed by another company (Seems to be a partnership with Zplane to use their algorithm)
This feature of downloading the stem engine separately is interesting because they might offer updates to the stem engine or offer other algorithms in the future without you necessarily having to download or wait for a new version of Engine Desktop each time.
This is exactly how Rekordbox works as well, which allows you to download the stem engines separately.
You wouldn’t have to wait for the newest version of engine; that would be the newest version. The update for engine would push when the stem feature set or algorithm was updated. Your right, that is also the way Rekordbox works, but i really don’t think that’s any kind of defense; since IMHO Rekordbox is a mediocre at best piece of software.
The purpose of having it separate is to not bog down drives and downloads for people who wouldn’t use the feature.
We’ve also just put out a new version of Engine desktop which resolves this download issue. If you are having stem library download issues, please update to 4.2.1. This is the only change that is in this version.
