Are they changing the price? it says £1650 in the UK, which is about the same price as this controller?
We in France the recommended public price for the Rane Four will be 1699€, this is an announcement we received a few days ago!
Pioneer DDJ-FLX10 1650€
It is not geat. It’s not been improved much since its initial release.
Just wished Denon DJ included it to get people hooked.
The Stems comparison was good around 4 minutes in.
Denon are unlikely to ever surpass Pioneer as far as mindshare is concerned, so there really is no point in continuing on with the comments about Denon falling behind.
@blackavenger, I was talking about the delay in the availability of products, whether old or new!
I speak as a former reseller and the dissatisfaction of my fellow resellers, they bring in more Pioneer products than Denon products and I can tell you that the PioPios are going like hot cakes, even despite the prices, given that the season event has already started.
Customers take what is available!
Besides… they had received 2 Opus Quads and since there was no Prime 4 available, the 2 customers preferred to add 800 euros more to go home with a product than to wait X months ; having no official deadlines to communicate to them for the availability of the Denon.
Your constant badmouthing of people who might not share all of your Dr. Genius opinions is really getting annoying, as other guys here have also stated already in multiple threads. Mind your words next time.
Yes, I am very much aware that Denon itself is not producing controllers. But if you carefully read my comment again, you might understand that I was refering to the current, general momentum of the competition with good features and clever details and that Denon hopefully keeps pushing their own products with details like properbly working EFX (incl. external sources), integrated DMX, or seamless handover between standalone and Serato. Or basics like more sturdy play/cue buttons and faders.
Prime 4 went up to 2400-2500 bucks here in Europe, btw. So people are comparing, as do I. And as Denon user, I want ‘our’ products to improve as well, whenever and wherever possible. Nothing more or less. Competition is a good thing.
Greetings from a ‘bot’.
Let’s return to the subject: DigitalDJTips are once again on their toes, they have posted a good comparison video between the Rane Four and FLX10. Both seem well implemented in my eyes. But I stick with my standalone route. Once you go there, it’s hard to go back! Lol
Btw, that DMX port is indeed a nifty thing. I believe Mojaxx has even mentioned/suggested this in his SC Live 4 review. Their lighting solution seems to be rubbish, though. Only RGB fixtures (no W, UV) and their hardware box is (was) very expensive.
That DMX connection is a fantastic feature, as someone said on Phil’s stream, its been omitted from the Opus though, which given its target market seems strange.
I agree on the Standalone, that extra wiring, laptop stand, laptop and general setup faff isnt something I miss at all, I can turn up to a gig and be ready to roll in less than 10 minutes after walking through the door, and I dont think Id want to go back.
I wonder why the Rane Four went with the small CUE button.
I prefer the big ones on the SC5/6000.
My travel controller the Roland DJ 808 also has the big CUE.
Yeah a weird choice… ive actually started trying to use Hot Cue one on my gear more these days, just to try and preserve the life of the cue button, but id still want it much larger than they have on the Rane. The sync button being bigger is ridiculous.
Let no one be fooled… as far as I know… Pioneer’s lighting mode is paid, it is not free, the price is much more expensive than soundswich
Not quite true. One of my best buddys was about to buy a SC4 Live as Serato controller but will now probably go with the FLX10 even thought it’s cost 350€ more. And he isn’t the only one here who bought Denon standalone gear to use it as a controller.
That is correct, but they aren’t dedicated was the point, and the featureset on them is quite limited compared to dedicated machines. I’d rather have something like a DDJ-SX over the options a Prime device gives to Serato users.
Sorry. I was meant to write that the dongle was included. I was typing fast.
I use SoundSwitch and know how bad the Rekordbox Lighting is in comparison. It was overpriced and under-specced and not good value.
Aye, my SC Live 4 also doubles as Serato controller. And for me, it would make zero sense to purchase a separate controller device just for that, if I have a unit which can do two-in-one. I had my eyes on the Prime 2 for a long time, but the lack of Serato support and proper Sweep EFX, together with the release of the Live units, killed it for me.
There are things on the FLX10 which I appreciate, the DMX-port is one example, the overall design/LEDs, hardware/standalone effects, inputs and jogwheels (size/screens) are others. I do not request these for the Live 4 considering it’s great price, but for a Prime 4 successor they certainly shouldn’t be ignored. They align quite well to what people still miss on the (otherwise well-rounded) Prime 4.
For me (just ideas):
- Larger 6.5-7" jogwheels, preferably with tension adjust
- Better jogwheel displays with higher playhead resolution + more info
- At least the 4 Sweep FX should fully work with external sources
- Merge the two FX banks into one conventional FX section in the mixer
- Play & cue buttons from the SC6000 line
- More robust faders, maybe a Mini Innofader as standard?
- Sampler pad mode (labeling) and volume knob
- Main display size is perfect, just needs to be brighter (and/or daytime mode)
- Dedicated Menu, View and Lighting buttons
- Bigger autoloop encoders
- DMX Out (more of a luxury tbh)
- Different VU meter colors
- (Dunno about Stems…)
If the FLX10 had a screen and was four channel standalone it would be dangerous…… but it doesn’t… If standalone stems ever came to be that would be a game changer. Carrying around a laptop in 2023 is not the future.
The one and only James Hype…… 4 CDJ-2000’s, a Mixer, and a fully loaded USB!. No Laptop required for this professional Dj!
I would never switch to Pioneer Lighting just because of Soundswitch. The fixtures that Pioneer supports are there in number, but the support is creepy. Usually only the basic colors are supported but no special features of the fixtures. The DMX connection on the FLX 10 is nice, but the Soundswitch dongle is really small - that wouldn’t be an argument for me.
Those sure look like 2000s to me.
Also seriously needs an epilepsy warning due to the use of extreme low ‘shutter angle’ on the cameras in combination with the strobes.
