When you say ‘ambassador’, is this an official role or self appointed?
Of course, it is a self-appointed role. But in the context that I love the brand and am a proud member of the Denon tribe, I dare say that I am an ambassador. Usually I always speak highly of it and have had some of my friends/colleagues to switch to Denon’s products.
SC Live 4/2 does not feel and is not experienced as a Denon DJ product. It would have been better if it was labeled under the Numark brand. Then everyone would get exactly what they expected and probably also be very happy with it.
I totally agree. You get a lot for the buck. But you don’t get the Denon DJ look and feel that is found in all the other Denon DJ gear.
I wrote my post in affect. Maybe some harsh words on my part. Sorry about that. But nevertheless, I was very disappointed with SC Live 4.
It’s kinda like a Denon/Numark hybrid. But more Denonish, imho. Add the far more mature design compared to Numark and I think the branding is deserved. I agree with you about some buttons and the pads. No idea why the engineers made them clicky and hard to press. Shouldn’t some DJs test the prototype(s) before release? I would have vetoed here immediately.
By contrast, the upfaders feel surprisingly good. Better than I remember them on the P2/P4 and much better than on the Mixstream Pro (smooth/even resistance, almost zero wobble).
All rotaries sit on sturdy metal pods. This is something Mojaxx should have mentioned (as he normaly does) and certainly deserves a +1. The ones for the browse and loop encoders are really chonky ones.
The pitch sliders feel amazing (like on all Denon gear). Better than on any brand, minus Rane and actual Turntables. Heavy, smooth, no wobble, no annoying center click, but a helpful zero LED. As someone who prefers manul beathmatching over Sync, the slider + jog are both a joy to work with.
The overall plastic finish is, as stated, good quality. It’s kinda brushed in the deck sections, not glossy (thanks god), doesn’t creak even when pressing hard on it, and it keeps the overall weight on a reasonable level. Prime 4 = 9.7kg, Live 4 = 5.8kg. Your arms and back will thank you. And you can carry it in a soft bag. The P4 requires a proper case (imho).
This all seems like gushing praise now, but let me state again, the unit sits right next to me on my desk, and over my 14 years of DJing I have owned and tested a lot of gear, being the nerd I am. I see no hardware quality issues here (minus some knobs and maybe the crossfader), for the price and features it’s simply a cool package. There are other flaws which can be annoying, for me mainly it’s the missing feature to pre-listen the Aux before turning the Volume control up (like the P2 can do, really needs a software fix, otherwise the Aux is useless both for mobile DJs as well as integrating Akai devices), the lack of deck color illumination, or maybe a 8-9" screen.
These are also my only criticisms of the SC Live 4:
- Pads too stiff Advantage - you can put your hand on it without anything happening-lol
- Cue for Aux would be very handy
- Font size for FX selection could be bigger
- Deck colors (Button)
Otherwise, the feel and quality is anything but “middle class”
Hi. can I download to SC live 4 firmware 2.2.2? Now I’ve got verzy 2.2.0. Unfortunately, these versions are not available for SC live 4 on the download page. Up to version 2.3.3. Thank you Jirka
2.3.3 is the first version that is downloadable, as it is the official launch version of the firmware with Amazon support. May I ask what the issue is?
With PRIME 2 since version 2.3.0, it doesn’t remember the playlist position. example I played 30 tracks on the Playlist House. Then I switched to the Techhouse playlist, after returning to sleep on the House playlist played 1 track and not 30 track. Pretty unpleasant. I had to go back to version 2.2.2 where it’s fine. I’m worried about the same scenario at SC live 4. if I update to the newer 2.4.0 firmware versions and don’t remember the position in the Playlist, then there’s no way to go back to 2.2.0, or 2.2.2 where it’s ok. Playlists are exported from Rekordbox.
It sounds like you’re talking about 2 things here?
The playlist position is which track you have previously browsed to when you return to a playlist, but then you’re implying that its not marking tracks as played after you play them, which is an entirely different thing?
I use the Prime 2 on version 2.3.2 and as far as im aware both of those things work correctly.
We’re aware of the issue and are planning on fixing it for the next release. I think STU-C’s suggestion is probably the way to go if you don’t need any of the new 2.4 features. It would be 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.2 though.
What is the issue Vince? ill see if i notice it when i next use the Prime 2, is it not remembering playlist position when you move between them?
Yes, it’s what you described in 2.4
Ahhh ok, thanks for confirming. I haven’t updated yet as my unit is stable doing what i need it to.
