Hi all,
Have a X1800 on the way and am wanting to use it as an external mixer in Traktor, am looking for instructions on how I do this ?
Setting up the X1800 as an External Mixer in Traktor
Install Drivers and Firmware.
First, visit the official Denon DJ website to download and install the latest drivers for your X1800. While macOS is often class-compliant and doesn’t require a driver, it’s always a good idea to update the firmware for the best performance.
Connect Your Gear.
Use a USB cable to connect your X1800 to your computer. Use one of the USB ports on the back of the mixer. The X1800 will be recognized as a multi-channel audio interface in Traktor.
Configuring Traktor’s Settings
Set Up Audio.
Open Traktor and go to Preferences > Audio Setup.
Under “Audio Device,” select the Denon DJ X1800.
You can set the “Sample Rate” to either 44100 Hz or 48000 Hz. A higher sample rate can improve audio quality and latency but requires more processing power from your computer.
Start with a “Latency” of around 256 samples (about 5-6 ms) and adjust as needed.
Set Up Output Routing.
Go to Output Routing.
Change the “Mixing Mode” to External.
Assign each Traktor Deck to a separate output pair on the X1800. This tells Traktor which audio stream to send to which channel on your mixer.
Deck A → Output 1 (L) / Output 2 (R)
Deck B → Output 3 (L) / Output 4 (R)
Deck C → Output 5 (L) / Output 6 (R)
Deck D → Output 7 (L) / Output 8 (R)
Input Routing (Optional).
This is only necessary if you want to record external audio or use a DVS (Digital Vinyl System) setup.
To record your mix: Go to Mix Recorder and set the “Source” to External. Then, choose “External Input” and select Input FX Send (USB 9/10), as the X1800 sends the master mix back to your computer on these channels.
Settings on the X1800 Mixer
Assign Channels.
On the X1800, you need to turn the Input Select knob above each channel fader to USB. This tells the mixer to receive audio from your computer.
Set each channel to the correct USB input, for example:
Channel 1 → USB 1/2
Channel 2 → USB 3/4
Channel 3 → USB 5/6
Channel 4 → USB 7/8
MIDI Control (Optional).
The X1800 can also send MIDI clock and control messages. If you want to sync Traktor’s effects to the tempo of the mixer, you can enable “Send MIDI Clock” in Traktor and use the X1800’s BPM sync feature.
In Practice
Audio and Cueing: Once everything is set up, load a track into Traktor Deck A. As long as you have the Input Select knob on channel 1 of your X1800 set to USB, you should hear the sound. All mixing, EQ, and effects will now be controlled using the physical knobs and faders on the X1800.
Headphones: The cueing feature works directly on the X1800, so you don’t need to adjust any settings in Traktor to pre-listen to your tracks.
If this reply was done via AI prompt - it messed up on this part.
Mixer can send it’s BPM clock over midi but cannot receive it, useless when using Traktor as DJ software. You would only use this when using CDJs/turntables and using Traktor as a FX unit.
