X Fader Contour Replacement Knob - massive design flaw... (not even needed!)

Sorry to say but this is an absolute design f***-up by Denon… I don’t even use this knob (nor the crossfader itself, everything set to thru - volume faders far more my thing) … why would they put it there sticking out so much and not just have an option in the screen menu??? Total bad design…

So the plastic knob itself has gotten damaged / compressed in transit somehow between gigs (even though I have a hard case to transport) and is squashed / compressed - the metal pot is now springy so I’m guessing some damage inside too - although currently working when tested.

I don’t use it but am aware stuff like this affects the resale value as I always really look after my kit, but due to this design flaw I now have a less than perfect unit.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement plastic knob from please?

Im guessing it’s because turntablist/battle type DJs will switch the contour regularly.

Tbh I never liked the positioning of that contour knob either. On the DDJ-SX units, the front knobs could be recessed and were protected during transport. The one on the P4 is more exposed and longer than needed. Hopefully something getting fixed in a potential successor. Wish you luck with the replacement.

For transport, I use a softcase + an extra towel as padding / protection.

Funny how everything is great until someone breaks something under their own actions , then suddenly it’s a {little black square} {little black square} {little black square} {little black square} major wajow , someone else’s fault design flaw

The front edge of many devices is often used for controls which are only used very occasionally.

That way, there’s more space on the main control surface (top panel) left available for the controls which most DJs would use frequently

Incidentally, even controls on the top panel aren’t 100% safe. I’ve seen one console/controller with 7 or 8 of its rotary potentiometers sheared off by a decksaver being used in a padded carry bag in one accidental “whoops” moment.

There’s no totally safe edge or side. Similarly, there’s no risky or dangerous edge or side
