Wifi Laggy - Use Ethernet

So not sure if this belongs more in Engine Hardware or Software, but I think it’s slightly more software.

So did a gig the other day and the sync from Engine hadn’t completed properly - saw lots of red tracks.

So I used my backup drive, pulled out the laptop, fired up Engine DJ and wanted to use the new tracks from there.

At the beginning of the evening it was fine, but later on as more people were using the same wifi it become very slow and I was seeing error messages on the go prime.

So if I want to do the same again, but want to use the ethernet connection is it as simple as plugging in a cable one end to the laptop, one to the prime go? or do I need to configure IP addresses and the like?

It is as simple as connecting an Ethernet cable between your laptop and device, it will automatically show up as a source when Engine DJ is running.

You shouldn’t configure IP addresses: if your interface is set to DHCP it will default to a random IP address in a defined range when the DHCP request times out, and communication is possible with other clients in the same situation. If you use a static IP address (which few people do today) this might be a different story, but it could even be that InMusic uses a sort of multicast protocol to mitigate this. Never tried it

Takeaway: if you should have problems, set your device to DHCP, that should definitely work.

Cheers, couldn’t find anything actually documenting it.

It’s in Engine DJ user manual, page 28

Ah cheers for that, so interesting to see nothing about ip address etc. I wonder if that’s why I had issues if some of my files were over 250 mb…
