I noticed that sometimes the prime 2 stutters and goes out of sync during beatmatch in Engine OS. Sometimes it doesn’t do it at all and then suddenly the stutters start and get closer and closer together.
So when this happened last time I switched to computer mode and looked at the activity monitor of the incoming midi signals in Virtual DJ.
And I figured out what’s going on, there are phantom actions on the touch part of the jogwheel (on both decks).
What’s strange is that it’s intermittent, in the sense that sometimes everything will work perfectly 2 nights in a row for several hours each time and for some reason on the 3rd or 4th night it will start stuttering, without the prime 2 having been moved, unplugged or the environment having changed in the meantime.
I know this kind of problem is often related to grounding, or the immediate environment, and I also know that the prime 2 is supposed to have an automatic jog wheel calibration phase during the boot sequence.
I also know that one of the workarounds is to disable vinyl mode, but for me it’s a big NO, I need vinyl mode in my workflow, if only because I’m used to strumming or doing manual backspin.
Gosh! why isn’t there just the possibility to recalibrate from the prime 2 settings without having to reboot the unit like it is the case on the prime 4/4+?
It seems that I found another workaround which is to unplug the unit completely, turn the unit on and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to completely discharge the residual electricity, then plug it back in and finally turn the unit on normally regularly.
It seems that this manipulation fixes the problem temporarily (for a few days).
But it would still be much simpler to have a recalibration option like in the prime 4/4+
When i had my grounding issue (symptoms the same as what you’re reporting) it was very intermittent, annoyingly it seemed to not do it at home initially and only at gigs, eventually it was just doing it full stop.
The repair i had done completely fixed it though, although i dont use Vinyl mode enough to say for certain its 100% gone, but the times i have used it, it never gives me any headaches.
Sent it back, twice. The first time didnt solve it, the second time said they replaced something to do with a bad earth under the left jog wheel, i don’t think it have the receipt any more, but it definitely referred to some component under the platter.
It kind of sounds like yours could be something to do with the electricity though? your workaround seems to point to it storing some kind of charge on device?
Yeah that’s what I definitely find very strange. If it was a problem of bad internal ground I think it would do it systematically during any session, but when I do this manipulation I’m pretty much at peace for a while.
I did a 4 hour set last night, with vinyl mode constantly activated on each deck, without any problem having done this manipulation beforehand before starting the unit.
But it’s still restrictive. While I’m convinced that if the calibration function on the prime 2 was available from the settings, I could easily redo a calibration on the fly if this happened during a gig.
There is certainly a service mode, but I don’t know the key combination or the procedure to access it. The players have one so it would be surprising if the standalones didn’t have one.
The big difference is that the prime 4 if you have phantom actions on the surface of the jogwheel, the colored ring will let you know by suddenly turning white without you touching it.
The prime 2 jogwheels don’t have a colored ring and there is no other indicator to know that it is that.
If I hadn’t had the idea to go and observe the virtual DJ midi message monitor I would certainly still be wondering what it could be.
No Help I’m afriad but I’m experiencing the exact same problem and would really like to solve it. Have to switch off vinyl mode (so no scratching for me!) but it only seems to affect the left sided platter, the right platter is perfect. The left platter I seem to be able to use the force on, just waving a hand over it can affect it (a foot above, not even close).
Adjusted the nudge sensitivity, no luck.
I’ve had the system for about 3 years now and it’s really only just started happening the last few months…
