Why can't I have duplicate tracks in Engine DJ playlists?

It’s not the only one with problems though, Rekordbox as an example has it’s fair share of annoying quirks.

I’d suggest this:

Go into a music production software like audacity:

Make a 10 second track … of silence

Save it as “blah”

Save it again as “blah2”

Save it again as “blah3”

Save it again as “blah4” etc etc as crazy/high as you feel you need to go with these visual separator tracks

Add these files to your engine library and let engine DJ analyse them on your pc or Mac

Then … and only then, start using them as visual spaces files down in your various playlists.

Moin @Pasha,

to be honest, I don’t understand your proposal and so a quick question occurs as follows:

  • Is this a proposal to solve the issue I described above?

It will be easy action for me to create several empty tracks via AUDACITY.

But how can I transport a track, analyzed by ENGINE DJ, amanded by hand (dropping anchor, settled Hot Cues and Loops) into the tracks called “blah#” while keeping the amendments?

Or do you refer to another item here in this post?

Thanks for your endeavours in this matter and sorry for any inconvenience.

Enjoy the day

Hi Beatmaster.

I think you’re getting confused between two separate issues here.

Pasha is answering the OP query only of having empty track markers throughout his playlist.

Basically he wants to say have 5 tracks, then an empty track called ‘gap’ then 5 more tracks, then the empty ‘gap’ track again… so its a way of splitting a playlist into sections.

Pasha’s solution is to create 10 empty tracks called ‘gap 1’, ‘gap 2’, ‘gap 3’ etc, to allow for this playlist splitting marker.

What you want to do is a different thing and i think your solution is to create a copy of your original track, call it (Copy 2) at the end of the track name then you can load up both versions and have one set of cue points on the first copy and another on the 2nd.

Moin @STU-C,

thanks for your info.

I supposed already that @Pasha and I are discussing different points.

My problem is not to load an originial of a track and a copy. That’S no problem.

The problem I’m struggling with is,

  • first step to amend a track with ENGINE DJ (dropping anchor, setting HotCues and Loops)

  • second step after this amending making a clone of this (but Title name, another artist and another filename in the WINDOWS environment must be changed). This clone I want to change regarding HotCues and Loops, but saving the beatgrid which I amended by hand.

Having done this, I can mix the original and the clone with itself.

But for this procedure, I think there is no procedure known in the forum.

Thanks for your attention and endeavours in this matter

Enjoy the day and brgds from HAM

I don’t think I would have a need for this per say but I can see why some may want it.

I am glad duplicates can’t be added as sometimes i forget when updating my playlist whats in there

It’s something that’s popped up for me a few times as I’ve done events that have required setlists so done this method.

I DJed Julien MacDonalds fashion show and had to playlist it all this way. For shows it works well as a workaround.

We also use a Prime Go for Zumba at work and use this method. I love how versatile these units can be and not just for DJing. We have them installed in production booths for when DJing turns to a show. We really use them to the max.

In the extremely rare case where I want more than 8 Hot Cues, I use the 8 Loop buttons and just disengage the Loop after triggered.

Also, explain “I amended the beatgrid manually; a lot of work” because if it’s what I think it is, I have a solution for you.

Moin @DJNixInTheMix,

thanks for your advise, to disengage the loop.

“beatgrid manually” dropping anchor at every downbeat if needed and adjusting the speed (by hand or automatically by the program).

Do you have a simpler procedure?

Thanks in advance and enjoy the day

Yeah, since you mentioned Amant - If There’s Love I’m guessing you’re dealing with (like myself) older classic tracks that are not quantized. I have some older disco tracks that change BPMs several times (slightly) throughout. Here’s what I do (short version)… take the track and import it into Ableton Live and warp it. What warp does, based on the BPM you select, is it essentially quantizes the track flawlessly without any effect to pitch. Export it out of Ableton, bring it into Engine, Analyze, and boom… all beats are on the grid. I find Ableton gets it perfect about 90% of the time and the other 10% I can manually anchor points. I hope this helps and if you need a more detailed explaination on how to do it, let me know. I was actually thinking about doing a YT vid on how to do this. Oh and you can do this in the Intro version of Ableton as well. No need to spend all that $$ on the suite.

Moin @DJNixInTheMix,

thanks for your info and advise. I will check it and try it out with Ableton …

And you are right, I’m not the youngest DJ :innocent:

I had my first GIG at Easter 1976, PhillySound was very popular, MunicMachine was commencing … Since this time, I started beatmatching and I continued till today and I hope to beatmatch in future as well

Enjoy old school beatmatching
