When will no-reboot switching between standalone and computer come to other Engine products?

With the release of the Rane System One, it is now possible to switch between standalone and computer mode without rebooting. This is a major improvement, and I need this capability on other Engine products.

I regularly play with other DJs. I prefer to use standalone, but because a reboot is required, I am forced to either bring my Rane 4 and a laptop or add an external mixer just to make things work. That friction matters in real-world situations.

Now that this functionality is live on the System One, when can we expect it on other Engine devices?

This is a big win for Engine as a platform. Seamless switching removes the feeling of compromise and makes it much easier to expose Engine to DJs who live in laptop-based ecosystems. It lowers the barrier to adoption in shared setups.

I do not see this as something that would require new hardware or a new chip. It appears to be a software-level capability. I am not just speculating here. I have been coding for over 25 years.

This feature is important, and now that it exists on one product, it feels time-sensitive for the rest of the lineup.

A short search on the forum would reveal that InMusic have already confirmed that seamless switching between computer and internal modes is not simply a firmware patch , it’s hardware - no firmware release is ever going to be able to bring seamless switching to the hardware, which it’s been confirmed, first and will never support it.

For me (as a technical person) it looks like there is some additional circuit on device, some kind of live switch. I bet it is not possible to just firmware it.

Neither one of my Engine DJ Powered controllers are 5 years old.

Its a fairly simple concept, all current existing hardware is not able to switch between modes due to a hardware limitation on the devices.

The new Rane System One however will be able to due to different internals, and moving forward, all new hardware is likely to be the same.

Ok. There are different ages of Prime models, and some may have been bought several years after the model was launched. The firmware in any one model may have changed over that time but the hardware has not had that feature added.

It isn’t possible due to the hardware.

No amount of firmware updates will cause a new piece of hardware to start growing inside of prime models

I understand the hardware limitations but I wish there was a way to directly boot into computer mode(mixstream) like there is to boot directlY into update mode
