I wanted to start a thread to collect inspiration from others – whether you’re playing clubs, mobile gigs, or just DJing at home.
What were your personal gamechangers lately?
Not just the latest gear you bought – but something that made a real difference in your workflow, performance, or setup.
Here are mine:
Wireless DMX – I use Chauvet’s solution. No more cable chaos and setup time cut in half.
SoundSwitch – Automated and synced lightshows without spending hours programming scenes.
Foldable DJ booth – I use the OMNITRONIC Mobile DJ Stand. Sets up in seconds, gives a clean, professional look. (Looks angled in the shop product photos, but it actually has straight corners – very sleek and neutral in person.) And one of a few fitting the Prime 4+ perfectly.
Mixstream Pro Go – Battery-powered with built-in speakers. Perfect for spontaneous sessions or practicing at home with zero setup.
Looking forward to hearing what changed the game for you!
The gamechanger for me was Algoriddim’s Fluid Beatgrid system, allowing seamless sync of tracks that would otherwise take ridiculous amounts of nudging, manual adding of anchor points or running through Ableton Live to lock the tempo.
Unfortunately IMO many other aspects of djay Pro are lacking, so I’m looking forward to the day when similar technology is available elsewhere.
#nospon (but I wish Mastermix would compensate me for these posts)
The Re-Grids series from Mastermix. To be able to mix up different genres absolutely effortlessly really puts another layer of …well… joy, wonder and surprise to my gigs.
Especially since I’ve pre-rendered them all for stems recently.
Yeah, the re-grids are great if you’re playing back on something that doesn’t have smarter gridding (see above) but I believe other companies will eventually introduce something similar. Rekordbox gave it a go, and Atomix have stated they’re working on it - so they won’t be necessary long term.
IMO though, removing tempo variations is one thing, but restructuring a track to “correct” other “issues” is a step too far. Case in point: Change - Searching. Triplet swing removed.
If you’ve not watched any of the One Song podcasts, check this out:
Hahaha cheers man, i cant imagine for a second you dont have the tools to make one or a massive double garage/workshop thats got more square footage than 90% of UK homes lol… at least thats what it looks like when i watch any US based woodworking channel on the tube.
Ill let the CNC/MDF company take some of the credit for the wicked patterned sheet made, its certainly effective.
It’s not new but it definitely made an impact on my personal approach to djing - Ableton link in dj players - this opened a ton of possibilities.
I am still waiting for midi clock via Din 5 though.
Using Akai MPC and Force for sequencing my own drums or clips in sync with normal dj set. Or using MPC one plus as FX processor on send/return, but keeping the fx in sync with the bpm.
Interesting that more people here refer to SoundSwitch being a gamechanger.
For me it was the world of lighting fixtures that got me back into DJ’ing. I was always fascinated by audio reactive visuals. In my music production projects (DAWless, so with Elektron devices, synthesizers etc) I made my own custom LED strip which responded to MIDI signals. Also used a greenscreen and the audioreactive software called Synesthesia. Then I learned about the DMX protocol, affordable lighting fixtures and the seamless integration with the Denon DJ gear.
For music production you need a specific “inspiration” mood, which apparently I don’t have that often. As a result my equipment wasn’t used much. But I always was interesting in DJ’ing (had a DDJ-400 a few years back). You don’t need a specific mood for DJ’ing, and turning on a standalone device doesn’t need much persuasion.
Fast forward, played with an SC Live 4 a few months and soon my Prime4+ will arrive.
