I’ve been an owner of the SC line since 2017 (SC5000), and I just now realized i have no flipping clue what SC is an abbreviation for. Standalone Controller?
Thanks in advance

(Single CD
Back in the day you had the DN players which where Double rackmount twin CD players, and the SC range, which where single table tops. So I’m pretty sure the S stands for single. The CD is just a guess… But controller wont be right, because SC was there before controllers where a thing…)
Meh, scratch that, just did my research, those early tabletops where “DN-S”…
Solid custard
They named it after me, cos why wouldn’t they
That must be it Stu-C
Standalone Controller. Maybe?
That’s what i thought most likely. Or ‘Single Controller’, but then that went out of the WIndow with the SC Live units.
Let’s take a look at the history of tabletop units from Denon:
DN-S1000, 3500, 3000, 3700, 1200 - were single CD decks. SC3900 and 2900 were single CD decks also. DN-S1200, 3700, and SC3900, 2900 were also midi controllers with hybrid midi mode.
DN-S5000 - was a single CD drive, but dual layer unit (Alpha track)
DN-HS was a range of dual decks with hard drive support. DN-HS5500 was a single CD/HDD drive unit with dual layer.
SC5000/5000M, 6000/6000M are media players without CD drive but with usb, midi and hid capabilities.
Some steps to tell you what SC stands for:
