Video mixing on prime 4 using virtual dj

i wish in the future update, this feature video mixing can add up on engine os ,it will b super amazing for video mix on a standalone controller on the 10 inch screen

I doubt that this will happen in Engine OS because the prime units do not have a video output to broadcast the video mixes.

If it works with virtual DJ it is because the computer has a video output (HDMI) allowing it to be connected to a screen, a video projector, or any other video broadcasting system. But it is the computer that takes care of this part here.

In addition, the hardware of a computer is infinitely more efficient to decode several videos in real time than the hardware embedded in the prime units (here with VDJ, it is still the CPU/GPU couple of the computer that takes care of this task).

The internal hardware of the prime units was designed to manage audio content before anything else. It is not certain that it would be efficient enough for video.

Yes obviously the main sticking point is lack of video output :joy: but the CPU (according to wikipedia) has:

Hardware acceleration for video and 3D graphics, 1080P video encoding, 4K H.264 and 10bits [H.265] video decode, 1080P multi video decode, and up to 3840x2160 display output, HDMI 2.0.

Certainly but to see if the CPU is capable of decoding, 2 or 4 video streams simultaneously as is the case for 2, 3 or 4 audio tracks I would not venture to bet on it. Especially if next to it it must also support video transitions, transformation effects, and empty shaders as VDJ does on several tracks at once.

Let’s assume that the features you mention are only intended for reading a single video stream at a time.

Random question.

Would they be able to support the NDI protocol with a breakout NDI box doing the heavy lifting and sending the conversion over the Ethernet and outputting it via HDMI out?

It would be an interesting take on it for sure. Something like a Magewell or Zowietech.

I’m not sure if it’s possible but if it is, it would be kinda cool.
