Update P4 - crap unit

so ive updated over wifi and now the p4 is in a cycle of updating the database

its been doing this for 2 days now which is suprising because i took off all the tracks from the internal hdd because it kept crashing and just use an external one now

but now i cannot even do that

the p4 is a piece of junk, but any ideas on what i can do?

ive tried to reboot, pull the plug etc

It’s not a piece of junk, you’re only not doing it correctly. By removing files ‘by hand’ on internal HDD you may have corrupted db files, so the unit can’t update your messed db. Format/remove internal SSD; Update via USB method, clean stick with only the .img file on the root; Update Engine on your computer, open it up, database on computer will be updated. Re-export to your external media or internal HDD

i removed them with engine prime so thought that would be safe, but maybe i’m missing something

thanks for your info and help and i’ll do that, it just sounds like a lot of work for what is really a copy and paste of audio files from one hdd to another

i think if denon did a survey most people would opt against having to remove the internal hdd, fomat, etc etc because the software is so unstable

but maybe i’m missing something

Starting a big OS update (I assume you’re updating from 1.6.x to 2.x.x OS) on a already messed DB is the “worst case scenario” - So that may be your case and the source of your problems. Have in mind that “deleting” from Engine only remove the “pointers” of the playlists, it doesn’t remove the music files - and the forced reboots only had errors to the DB. I believe when you started your P4, the OS detected the DB on your hdd and tried to update. On ideal world the sw would be able to detect and correct/avoid the messed DB, but it is not always the case on any SW.

yes, i think a more solid wifi upgrade and a wifi library sync could solve a lot of frustrations for everyone

i bought the stand alone controller hoping i would not need the pc so much

i actually dont use it that much being a bedroom dj but the last few times ive turned it on, i’ve not been able to use it for various reasons with the library syncing and now this… which kind of defeats the object for me

Having an internal drive is entirely optional - external drives can be used just as effectively and of course, simply unplug on good ol’ USB for ease of updating etc

+100 on @SunnyJ s comment in fact to take it further. Buy a top end bit of kit think your going to be tiesto next week. Buy something then grizzle cos it aint pioneer. Buy something and assume its going to get this feature next week. Run bad mp3s. Not read mamual. Pour drinks over unit then moan about warranty repair not being done)ok thst was a pioneer unit agreed). Then argue about trival things that will not improve the unit at all just makes you lazy as a dj (sync buttons. Etc etc) Asking page one questions and claiming you been spinning for 30+years.

Yup the prime 4 does exactly what you ask it to do. Same as ANY computer its an inanimate object. The user is more at fault than the unit.
