Does anyone know if the P4 can read UHS-type 2 cards - say the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128Gb with read speed 300mbps? I understand that type 2 have a second row of pins on them.
I know SDXC cards are compatible but just want to know if the faster type 2 UHS can be read & utilised in the units.
Cheers.
I can try tomorrow if you want but anyway I think that it’s useless to have this kind of speed for music files. It won’t improve anything on a sd port, when you can see that a simple class 10 card does the job perfectly
If you have the means to check/try, that would be great .
I figure the benefits might be minimal (if at all) but I’m intrigued because when playing 3 tracks and more especially 4 tracks simultaneously, I note the waveforms have an odd hiccup/stutter.
Is that generally normal & would not be improved by a 300mbps read? Or is it a case where the read only affects the load time onto the decks (and obviously the import/export rates on the pc)?
2.0… but it was the same with older versions. Nothing too bad - it just feels like the system is working overtime when you have 4 tracks playing.
EDIT: Regarding the trying out of a UHS-11 card, maybe you needn’t bother. The cards are apparently backward compatible & so whilst they will work, they will only do so with UHS-1 capabilities. There are many devices in 2021 with SD slots still using UHS-1.
I therefore highly doubt Denon will have UHS-11 readers. I think the fastest read speeds (on SD cards) will therefore be capped at around 170mbps - even if you have a premium 300mbps card.
Well… Just tried with my Integral Ultima Pro X2 that I use in my Dji Air 2 S drone for 4k, I can’t see any difference between my Samsung Pro Plus that I usually use in my P4. May be a little bit faster in charging… or may be placebo effect ? Capacity are the same, 128 gb. Curious thing, when I wanted to eject the card, there was a problem “eject failed”. It’s the first time I encounter this message. I had to shut off the Prime first. So I won’t experiment UHS2 anymore One thing I can’t understand is why they didn’t put an usb C port…
Thanks for trying it out
I always get the eject failed with an SD card - though the source does dissappear & has disconnected. I always power off before removing any drive anyway.
I don’t think you will improve anything in the scrolling of the waveform. You may see the improvement in the speed of scrolling playlists or when loading the track into the deck, but then all the rest of the operation will take place in RAM memory, so the speed of your SDXC card (or USB stick) does not matter. Your waveform problem may be due to overloaded hardware or a firmware issue, which we hope can be solved.
I hope it isn’t hardware. Like I say, it is a very minor issue which I just put down to the unit working harder with 3 or 4 decks playing at the same time. It isn’t looking good though if it is just me
Maybe others may confirm the odd hiccup in the waveform.
Is the read speed on your 256gb 170mbps or 300mbps? If it is 300, then it is UHS2 & I think we have established that Denon SD slots are not type 2s. UHS2 will still work but the reads will only be to the capability of UHS1 (ca. 170mbps)
