Track pre listening no sound

Hi all,

There is no sound when I click on the Preview column waveform on the desktop App. I see the green play button pulsing and the track position marker moving, but it plays no sound. I´m using Komplete Audio 6 Audio device. My output is set on channel 1/2 and the decks play on channel 1/2, but when I click on the preview it plays the track on channel 3/4, although its set to 1/2. I could connect my cables to output 3/4, however I´m not able to control the volume on my interface, so It is not really an option. In addition I ´d always have to change my cables from 1/2 to 3/4 and vice versa when finished.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

hi @Airborne ! Welcome to the community

Have you checked to see what the output is in the desktop app’s settings?

Hi djliquidice,

Yes these settings are correct. I chose audio 6 interface and output 1/2, the decks play on output 1/2, but the preview only plays on 3/4. That is the reason why im puzzled .

If I change the output in the settings to 3/4, my decks will play on 3/4 and so does the preview. When I then change the setting back to 1/2, my decks will play on 1/2 again. However the preview remains on output 3/4. It drives me crazy. For preparing my sets I don’t even use the decks. The preview is all I need in the desktop app.

How about trying this?

Set Windows’ system audio to whatever channels you require on the external sound card and then change Denon to say “Default” (meaning System). Does that resolve the issue?

I’m running the software under MAC OS 14.5

Does it need a driver to properly operate the sound card?

Yes it does and I have the latest version installed.

Sorry about that. You can still do this with MacOS.

  • System Settings
  • Sound
  • Output → Choose whatever it is you need to choose. This will be the system “Default”.
  • Set Engine DJ Audio to “Default”

Does it work after the above?

If it doesn’t you’re likely going to have to create a custom virtual sound device in Audio MIDI Setup.

Here, i created a custom “Multi-Output Device” that allows me to use BlackHole (a virtual loopback adapter) so that i can record system sounds as i desire.

Hey team, this is expected behaviour for how Engine Desktop currently works with multi-output soundcards.

The solution is to provide a setting to route the preview audio independently of the main audio output. This is a feature request however, so I suggest gaining support for this idea from the forum area for feature requests.

OK, this could work maybe. I will definitely give it try this weekend and keep you posted about the outcome :+1:

This is exactly what I´m missing in the settings and I don´t really get it why. In my opinion this should be a common setting in every DJ/producing software for multi-channel audio devices. Even when I select output 1/2 for my decks, the preview just remains on the outputs 3/4. I do not want to use output 3/4 as I´m not able to use the volume knob for this output on my audio device. :frowning:

Raise a feature request for it. People can then vote and it’ll be tracked.
