Throwback - James Hamilton's Record Mirror reviews

I don’t think this has been mentioned here before, so I’ll post a link:

He’s sadly no longer with us, but James Hamilton’s RM column was essential weekly reading for DJs in the UK, with full BPMs for each track (including all the tempo changes!) and his uniquely flowery descriptions of how each track sounded.

His columns are being lovingly recreated on the above site, complete with links to the reviewed tracks. They’ve even included his “odd & bods” general DJ info which headed the page each week.

Paul Dakeyne gets a mention, along with lots of other DJ names which will be familiar to those old enough to remember. Even I got a mention a couple of times

That’s excellent. …& my next few days reading sorted!

There’s a brand new podcast called Who Was James Hamilton, with Greg Wilson and Mike Atkinson, in advance of a forthcoming hardcopy book (pt 1) on the man himself and his Record Mirror reviews.
