Opening a thread for all fellow camera and movie guys & gals out here, working with fullframe, APS-C or MFT bodies (or even bigger movie cameras). Sharing experiences, advices and your best DJ-themed photo shots.*
Next to music, dmx-lights and 3D-modelling, I found big interest in everything involving cameras and lenses. Currently, I own the (FF) Lumix S5 + Sigma 24-70 f2.8 as my main setup, while the smaller (APSC) Sony ZV-E10 + Sigma 30 f1.4 acts as my b-cam. Sometimes I involve a third perspective with my smartphone. I have already an eye on the Sony A7CII and new Sigma 24-70 MkII since that setup has no 30min record limit for 10bit 4:2:2 and also is much lighter for traveling than my Lumix combo (1.25 vs 1.55kg), since I also enjoy hiking and even would give some night & astro-shots a try.
Yes, I’ve been using digital cameras since the days of 640x480 resolution. My first I think was an Olympus C400L (1996) and my journey took me through Fuji bridge cameras to the Canon DSLRs I have now. They were mostly bought before the streaming options, but I did buy a mirrorless one more recently for streaming.
Ditto for video and camcorders, starting with tape then going digital, then HD. Now it’s all in the DSLRs.
Nice camera gear that i haven’t used in ages , im having a struggle to motivate myself to get out with the camera, largely since Covid. Luckily im more into DJing at the minute so ive still got the creative outlet.
My gear consists of a couple of Fujifilm X series cameras (The X-T2, T20 and E2s which is my partners) with a few zooms and primes. Its APS-C so the 1.5 conversion will be needed for equivalent focal lengths but i have the 10-24, 16-55 f2.8, 18-55 f2.8-4, 70-300, then 23mm, 27mm and 50mm primes. We also have a couple of Samyang lenses, a 12mm f2, and an 8mm fisheye (in case i need to create a 1990s RnB video).
Like PK i also have a selection of filters, too many tripods and other accessories.
I too suffer from the 30 min record limit so i want to explore this new ios video app that is coming with iOS 18, it looks like it will capture external video i think. We are in the process of moving house so when we get to the new place ill have a proper DJ room with an outward facing booth (that im going to build myself, watch this space) so i want to start streaming on Mixcloud or Twitch maybe. I think i might be able to use OBS but my older Mac wont handle the bandwidth of anything past 1080p, so utilising the M4 ipad pro i reckon might be the best option.
Anyway here is a link to my favourite photos, a couple of ‘DJ related’ shots in there but mainly Landscape/Weather shots.
Love this thread and to hear that others here have a passion around capturing moments (still or motion).
I have been doing montage videos since 2002, starting with a car modding enthusiast group I used to be a part of. That passion transitioned into the DJ world and then eventually capturing moments of our boys.
From a gear perspective, I started with analogue camcorders, migrated to a single Sony standard def Digital 8mm camera and then to a canon HD Camcorder. I learned about the Canon DSLR video capture capabilities (starting with the 5D) and then purchased the 7D. I eventually upgraded to a 5D MK2, then 5D MK3.
I took film making into the DJ world for a little bit and made a few videos with the various canon cameras i had at the time.
My current cameras are the Gen 1 Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6K. I got them back when they were released. These have a really heavy workflow, but worth the effort IMHO as the outcome can be amazing. I’ve done montages for our kids and their school team activities.
